Known 848 Issues

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Loose sprockets, Jul 24, 2016.

  1. Right, well, as i stated in my introduction post, I'm currently looking at a number of 848's, are there any well known issues i should be looking out for? Or is it just a case of the usual check for service history, regular belt replacement, what its been used for and that it hasn't been down the road ect?

  2. Headlights and speedo can missed up, rear suspension is too hard, gear boxes are not the best false neutrals, can be a bitch to ride but you'll love it

  4. Sounds just like my previous Ducati then....when it read 30mph i was actually doing 42, cue an unwanted speeding ticket making me realise the issue! A trip to Kais on day on it is then.

  5. It's something to consider, it depends how much the missus loves me....

  6. Not wishing to offend the other 848 owners but buy a 1098 better spec and likely to have not been ridden as hard as a 848 ,

  7. To be quite frank, I'd kill myself on one sadly. The 848 is more than enough for the odd sunny blast into wales for me. Its also lighter and more nimble due to a smaller rear wheel i believe?

  8. Watch out for the wrong bulbs in headlights. Caused mine to melt and start melting the loom backwards.

  9. Thread moved

  10. I'm selling mine if you're interested?

  11. That is hardly an 848 problem, any wrong bulb in any bike, whatever make, can cause wires to melt.

  12. I had the same problem.... But I had owned mine from new and it had the standard bulbs. I put mine down to some funny business when the Reg/rec failed for the second time...

  13. Could also be because the headlight connector is not pushed fully in.

  14. No one has mentioned radiators? Was definitely an issue on early 848's and I think Ducati replaced a LOT! Evo's seem to have had them sorted.

Overall the evo is worth the extra IMHO, with the rear suspension being an issue on all 848's. It's just SO hard!

  15. Repaired my radiator, not a big job. Mine is a 2010 non EVO, did not see the point in waiting for an EVO to come along as there is little difference between the two.
The rear suspension can be softened by backing off the spring preload, along with an adjustable ride height link it suits my 80 kg just fine.

  16. I had one major problem with mine. Riding it at anything under 80

  18. Standard footpegs! Lethal things.

  19. Elaborate please, I have never had a problem with them. You say lethal, are they going to kill me?
