1299 Engine Management Light Has Come On In Rain On Way To Wales Uh Oh

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Lyndon, Jul 28, 2016.

  1. Hi guys have any of you encountered this before.

Engine management light has come on, on way up to Wales on the motorway in the rain.

Turned bike off and back on again management light went away and hour late back on and into wet mode again.

Gonna try and nurse it to where I'm staying then maybe get Ducati assistance out? But had planned a weekend of riding

Let me know if you have any ideas

    Thanks

    Lyndon

  2. Does it run fine when light is on albeit wet mode?

When it comes back on do you notice what you are doing i.e. Cruising at set rpm, closed throttle, wide open throttle?

Ducati assistance is the AA so can't imagine they'll have Ducati diagnostics onboard to view a fault code.

  3. Just a thought but is everything else fine? Only real issue I've had in the rain, albeit an 899, was the gear sensor which went to dashes or 6 regardless of the gear I was in.

  4. Does it go into wet mode itself??

Which light is it; the generic fault one on the left, or the one that's actually shaped like an engine on the right? and does it bring up any codes or warnings?

  5. There are at least a couple of threads on this, but it may not be the same problem: – from memory, there is a sensor/ancillary that is buried in the seat unit that can be affected by prolonged use in the rain. will attempt to find more details.

  6. I had the same issue, is your quick shifter working? Up and down?

  7. You might be thinking about the BBS Black Box System that is under there. Some people have talked about the big connector getting a bit dodgy after a lot of rain.

If the bike is riding ok then I wouldn't worry too much, there are a million systems that give the warning lights but as long as it has fuel and oil in it then chances are it will keep going without bother, albeit a few less electronics.

  8. It probably is the "big black box" but unfortunately I can't find the posts so will have to stay with this vague-ery ;) not only was it a 'bit dodgy' due to water ingress but the poor chap was posting on here while stranded hence my post to try and help like you do?
    ;)

  9. Hi guys thanks for replies, so the engine light comes on and the mode setting flashes whilst riding but does stay in the mode you are in its the engine light on the right that stays on.

The quick shifter I think indicates that it will not work

    Cheers

  11. Management light has gone off so will hopefully get it checked when back but had to get some new tyres

  12. Haha, how many miles on that pair?

Are you sticking the SC's? ( The wear indicators are useless on these Pirellis!)

  13. @Mr.R Funny, on my 675 the oil light flickered and I ignored (as I always have on my Ducatis) and a lap and a bit later it went bang.

Nore to self: other bikes dont lie

  14. About 2700ish

Yeah have stuck with same tyres as for most of the riding I think they are spot on. Just won't be taking motorway home that's for sure

  15. Wow they must have felt horrible for the last 500 miles, fully squared off :)

  16. Little update. (Just incase anyone else encounters similar problem)

Into Ducati today quick 5min check and seemed to be nothing really wrong just a reset on a sensor/unit that had flagged up close underneath to the headlights which could have got wet.

Anyway off I go but unfortunately quick shifter wasn't working and then 10mins later the old engine management light pops back up :tearsofjoy:

Back into Ducati tomorrow. RainGate saga continues....

  17. Ive been here twice on two different bikes mate, it needs a new quickshifter.

    Hope you get sorted soon.

  18. Wonder why that would fail?

Ye hopefully doesn't take too long to sort if so, under warranty

  19. The quick shifters get jammed up with muck in the rose joint , I've had it happen twice now.

  20. My quickshifter and auto blipper stopped working on Monday. Intermittent this morning with really sloppy shifts and dead as a dodo this evening. Ride it to the dealers tomorrow like it's 1999.
