I have to get my bike up to Ducati John in Leeds so was thinking about couriering it, has anyone done this before and have any recommendations?
Mrs Duke Sox is horse mad and we may be going to look at a horse in Leeds soon. We have a horse box which I have used to move my bike with ease. If we are going and the timings work out and the locations are close I may be able to help. We live in Bedfordshire so not too far from you I think.
Wow, that would be fantastic if possible. Keep me posted if you would please? Bedfordshire is not too far, no. The bike is currently in Welwyn Garden City.
Can I ask why you travel so far when there are well established specialists that seem highly thought of in most parts of the country? Bike delivery would cost you circa £150 each way.
Long (ish) story. I went to view my bike this morning and the intermediate gear's bolt wasn't tightened properly (we assume) so over time this has created an oval shape of the hole in the engine casing it sits in. My garage i use for my bikes (who i also think of as very good friends) have said in their opinion its a new engine now required. I then found engine casings on eBay and thought i was on to a winner, till the garage told me the cost of transplanting my bits to those new casings would probably cost £1 to £1.5k. I then Googled Ducati engine rebuild and Ducati John came up, looked on his website and gave him a call. I spoke to John and we had a long chat. He has a background in engineering and confirmed the same with regards to the costs but did says he feels he may be able to make the oval hole round again (but bigger) and then make a collar for the peg of the gear, so it sits true again. This morning i felt like my world had fallen apart but hopefully this can be sorted by John. The bike is on its way for £113. I'll get the train up when (if) it's fixed and ride it down, hopefully stopping at everyone on here's houses on the way for a cup of tea and a widdle
@Pavey, from what I've heard about Ducati John, he's the one (if anyone can) sort it for you. Give us a shout if you need picking up from the station as it's not far away. Ian
Ducati John is a proper engineering, not fit and replace, fella iirc and I think andyb and others used him all the time. Real specialist
Bike is fixed, yippee. Getting the train up tomorrow and get to Leeds at 12.48. Quite nervous about going so far north, what if they don't like me I think it's about a 4 hr ride back depending on how many times i have to stop to fill the bike up, probably 2 or 3 i would think. Have booked the wife in to apply Savlon to my rosy cheeks when i get home.
