Is the DDA+ a worthwhile investment for a 848 trackbike or is there a better alternative out there on the market ?
Depends on whether you have the knowledge, wherewithal and riding skill to interpret and act upon the data recorded. If you are, why not use what the bike is wired for and you should be able to find a second hand one at a reasonable cost. If you are not, IMO it just ends up being bragging rights. Andy
Connect it with a gps and you'll get good data, easy to understand. My last bike had a gps laptimer and it was awesome. I could check speeds and times into different areas of the track, compare laps, compare lines. I've installed the pzracing gps on my current bike but havent had the chance to play with it yet...bigger fish to fry first.
Ive seen the PZRacing stuff but didnt know too much about it, is it plug and play like the DDA or does it need to be wired in
Plug and play. I have the gear indicator and gps laptimer on mine. Instructions are totally crap! But basically you plug in into the DDA plug and your cluster, mount the receiver and youre done
Another option is a good gps laptimer. I had the qstarz ls600 (I think thats the model) it was a standalone system about the size of a pager. Awesome data, easy to use and portable. Added bonus was that you could use the datafile and overlay video with it. Heres a video with some of the basic overlay
I have done that with the Harry's Laptimer app and GoPro footage in my car, but haven't tried it on the bike yet.
I haven't tried harry's but heard lots of good things. I'm not sure about how to analyse the data from harry's. The pstarz was easy to use ( I think the gopro company bought the overlay/analysis software I used and give it away free).
The RaceChrono Pro App for Android phones is a great lap timer . Linked to a Garmin Glo gps receiver I can review my sector times, overlay video too.
