998 Ducati 998 Common Parts With Other Models

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by TTBen, Aug 10, 2016.

  1. Hi all,

I've just purchased a Ducati 998S - it's a lovely thing. It needs a bit of work, so I'm on the hunt for various OEM / aftermarket parts to bring it back to a good standard.

I'm interested to know if there's an extensive list somewhere, showing which parts from other Ducati models fit the 998, so I have a crib sheet to go off when scouring eBay and the like.

    Thanks, Ben

  2. Thanks DesmoDuck, that's useful but I can't see the wood for the trees with all the parts listed down to washers.

I don't s'pose you know of anything that's not, er, dare I say it, so detailed? Something along the lines of

    All 916 wheels fit 998
    996 airbox fits 998, etc.

  3. What parts are you looking for?

  4. That could be quite a list......

  5. Thanks all, yeah I did think this would be a bit of an ask! The trouble I have is when I come across parts - mainly trick bits - and they are listed as 'for a 2001 998' or 'for a 916' and I think.. er.. is that JUST for that bike or would it fit my 2002 998S?

  6. What bits for example?....

  7. Hi Ducati Dad, so my shortlist is:

    Aftermarket Rearsets
    Airbox Rubbers
    Slipper clutch
    Filler cap
    Ohlins Forks
    Power Commander

    Thanks, Ben

  8. The Power Commander is unique to the 998 models as it has different fittings. The Ohlins forks would depend on what type and model\s they were from if fitting second hand.

I have a 998 and two 748's and roughly most chassis parts will fit between 748 and 998 apart from the headlamp holder mounting bracket and the wiring loom. The ECU is totally different as well as is the battery etc.

The engine is of course different although some parts from the 748 range are common.

The other parts you mention will fit although the airbox itself is again unique to the 998. The air tube rubbers and the airbox lid seal are the same as the 748 range though.

  9. You can go on the Ducati website and download a PDF of all the individual parts that make your bike (parts list) with the parts number. Very useful, and it shows how it all fits together.

  10. The airbox seal to tank is different on the 748/996 to the 998

  11. I think you'll find that only the 996R air box fits a 998.......I could be wrong!
