Have Ducati Got It Wrong?

  1. I have just recently asked the question, "wheel nuts" what size and what torque.
I have a Monster 821, so I went into my local dealers (Riders Bristol) and asked the question. They told me that the wheel socket size is a 12point 36mm, brilliant, done.
What torque? to this he looked at the workshop manual which quite clearly said 180nm, I then told him that the handbook says 145nm, he said no, but he had a look, and there it clearly say 145nm. So which is correct 145nm or 180nm, they are not even close.
Riders are going to contact Ducati on Monday and make them aware of this and get the true torque setting for the rear wheel on a 821.

  2. Can't give you the answer but my money's on 145 nm. That sounds about right. The 60 mm nut on my KTM is 200 nm so 180 sounds a lot for a 36 mm.
Having said that, Ducati do like em tight. The Streetfighter's nut is 50 nm more than the KTM's and its only a 55 mm.
You've done the right thing in getting a dealer to confirm with Ducati. If you get it wrong and strip something they can't say it was your fault.

  3. Single sided swingarm? I'd go with 180.

  4. What is the biggest bearing on torque ?
Nut size ? Material of nut ( Ali / steel )thread pitch ... nut depth what it tightens up against .... steel / alloy ?

  5. No, normal swing arm.

  6. My main issue is that Ducati are contradicting themselves, even the dealers where shocked by this, and how come no one else has noticed this...

  7. 145 then. My gixer and triumph are both around 100, so even 145 sounds high.

  8. I thought this thread was going to be about the last V twin sportsbike now the V4 is on it's way
