Hi all, Bit about me - I passed my DAS in 2013. I rode a CBR600f for about a year and then crashed it at Snetterton *blush*. I've not ridden for a couple of years now. I bought a red 848 on a whim. Totally based on sound and looks. I've not even sat on it yet! I know i know it's a dumb thing to do. I just couldn't help myself. Anyway, here I am. Totally clueless. I will get it insured in the morning and go for a ride. I plan to take it easy. I have a lot to learn about basic bike maintenance - things like checking oil, checking chain condition, oiling chain, adjusting chain and cleaning. Hope I can get some good advice on the forum. I'm near Gatwick airport by the way! Cheers, Dub
hello and welcome dude. Not a dumb thing to do at all.... Just take it easy and ride as much as poss!
Welcome Dubcat, theres a couple of us around that area im just up by Pease Pottage wheres the bike from P +H ?
welcome. Good bike. Remember that it won't like to run under 4-5,000 and get it along to Rob at ProTwins to set the suspension
Welcome, brought my current first duke without testing it. As the spec was exactly as I required with a few minor editions
Not daft at all. I ordered an 848 when it was first announced, just after I passed my test, having never ridden any other bike. Remember, it only goes as fast as you make it go Enjoy it, they are a great bike.
The 848 will take a bit of getting used to but stick with it and advance at your own pace.. It will be worth it
I did about 60 miles today including hanging out at Rykers and then riding up to Newlands Corner. LOVE THIS BIKE! So easy to ride. Why was I scared? I have no idea. It just goes as fast as you want it to. It makes a lovely grumbling sound and a gorgeous burble when you come off the throttle. One big big difference is that this bike goes decievingly fast compared to my inline 4. The inline 4 was always quite hectic. Felt like hard work. This thing just FLYS! So pleased. The only bad bit is that I scuffed up the heel plates quite badly. Not sure how I managed to do that. I also managed to scuff the top edge of the tank a little - just above the tank protector.
a few scuffs Are par for the corse if ya use it...after rebuilding my 748 I was devastated with every new scratch or chip but after a while I think I reprogramed my brain and although these things still upset me its a case of using it v wrapping it in bubble wrap.. Get the miles in and when it's looking down spunk some money!
Goodlord she had her service done at pro twins! Ill pop down there and ask for Rob Thanks! I been cruising at 3000 rpm. Seems fine. Will i do it damage at those low revs though? 749si cool - would be good to meet up with you guys for a ride out some time Jolley awesome. I think we are both daft lol I will post up photos asap.
3 k is a bit low. The real problems come if you put the motor under load at low revs in a high gear. But the smaller capacity motors are less stressed than the larger ones anyway, so less drama. PT are the local Marmite dealers! They can be easy to get offended by, or to offend. Take biscuits for the workshop guys and they'll appreciate it. BTW, introduce yourself on the Boxhill thread - they're good old duffers
Thanks for the PT tip. I don't want to offend them. P&H get mixed reviews. The motorcycle workshop in Bolney get good reviews but PT are closer and Ducati specialists. I will get on to the Box hill thread. There were tonnes of bikes at Rykers yesterday!
Yeah I ride up there sometimes but it can be a bit weird because I don't know anyone. Nice ride from there up to Newlands Corner too.
were you at Rykas with a Multistrada on Sunday? will look out for you in the future. Was at Newlands yesterday, 4.30 - 6.30 (long after shut as the weather was so good.)
