Ducati Panigale Track Noise Levels Thread

  1. Umm.......to help pass noise testing? Or I could be wrong???

  2. Induction noise should be louder!! Philistine ;)

Cant see it doing a thing, you only really hear it at low accelerating revs not the ones that trip meters

  3. Ahh ok - thought I might have stumbled on something there for a moment.

  4. What about static noise testing though which I guess is what @SimonT was thinking? Do you think it would help there?? I wonder if they have any RPM to DB figures they can show us. For the record I agree induction should be louder haha

  5. Stick a rag over the front of the airbox to stop the noise if that's a worry. But bear in mind the meter is 6' away at the back on most bikes...now clutch is a real problem for dry clutch models

  6. Only half a meter at 45degrees if done properly, and with the exhaust exit of a Panigale being in front of the back wheel, that doesn't even put it behind the bike.

  7. Do any Panigales have dry clutches? I thought they were all wet?

  8. No wet. Just making the point a dry clutch is way more noisy than any induction I'd imagine. Never tested so don't know but just standing next to one

  9. How can I make my Termi's look stock for the noise test at Brands Indy next week? LOL :-/

  10. There was a guy at Brands last month with an R who had removed the Termi badges. The noise guys spotted it and didn't let him out!

  11. ..Wet mode, warm engine, in gear, clutch in, tilt bike, cross fingers

  12. The best way to get around noise testing on UK tracks is to not bother and get yourself abroad to some European events, no noise testing, Sunshine, warm tarmac, and cold beer. :sunglasses:

  13. I noticed this on the frame of my 959 today. Not sure where the meter is when they measure 98dB?....

  14. I think they just make it up :grinning:

  15. Can you wedge a load of wadding behind the baffle for the static and just take it out for the drive by?

  16. Added this weeks Silverstone experience. First time I've seen static testing there. If @Sam1199S bike gets through then most should be fine but worth sticking in baffles for the static test if you have them.

  17. Hey royal just to add to your update on Silverstone.

I arrived late and missed the briefing but they were OK about it and gave me and few others a quick briefing, what they failed to mention at the time which they did in the earlier briefing was that anyone in novice group did not require their bikes to be noise tested.

Unaware of this I rode my bike down to the guys to carry out the static test, 109Db first test and 107Db second test (i'm running termi slips ons with no baffle or Db killers, wasn't given any when purchased). They said it was the loudest one there and that there was no chance of me getting on track how it was. I pointed out that there were other dukes about with ackra and termi systems, then asked if i could try a drive by but they weren't having it, and they declined. They did say i was welcome to as many static tests as i liked if i was able to reduce the noise.

Rode bike back to garage explained this to Ducati Wolves who i booked with and said that there was nothing that could be done. Then his son popped up and said that novices weren't subject to testing, so i just went out on the first session and carried on throughout the day, wasn't picked up by any of the drive by stuff.

I didn't feel like they were hugely friendly towards my Panigale with no offer of a driveby, but it was a fair bit off though. Next time i go i'll be moving up to inters so will deffo need to sort some DB killers or something out to help reduce the noise as I would like to be closer to their limit on the static test, may give me more wriggle room then for a drive by.

  18. Strange - I was Silverstone on the 11th August and no static test. Who was the TD booked through?

  19. TD was with No Limits on the 15th and booked through Ducati Wolves

  20. Thanks for adding. The trackday on the 9Aug was with Nolimits but I think it was Silverstone themselves mandating noise tests for just the fast group.
