Hi all, I've opened up my 848 cans & removed the baffle plates / left the cat in & run 3" perf with silicon needle packing in there... They sound fantastic & I'm really pleased all in.... Late last year I took her for a dyno just to see how she was fuelling... She's on a stock ECU & to me she runs fine but for peace of mind I wanted her checked.... Results were ok but not great... She runs lean as hell but compared to a standard bike on standard baffles its pretty much the same so the whole debaffling job has not made any difference (aside from the mint noise).... Now, my dyno guy is a PC distributer & started trying to flog me a PC3... He's saying all in with setup its £400... In his opinion it will richen things up & get a more consistant AFR..... I'm thinking of cheaper options like a DP ECU or maybe even somehow flashing my standard ECU..... depending on how these replies go I'd also want to build a pair of totally cored cans & run a straight through system..... What do y'all think?.. If the ECU can be reflashed to DP spec who can do this for me? Cheers all
Imho better to get it flashed or add a PC and set up (even if its just an auto tine or recommended map). An ECU change is still only a compromise; your bike will be different to every other one out there. Too lean is bad, too rich is bad, so getting the AF spot on it the way forward Not doing anything 'may' be the most expensive option
Your ecu can be flashed to DP spec easily enough, the cables will cost you about 20 quid and a software licence for the writer software about €100. ChrisW on here is your man if you don't fancy having a go yourself...... Failing that a custom map is the way to go....the PC is just adding more junk to go wrong, when your Ecu is more than capable of being tuned.
As Anth says I can help you. I can flash your ECU to map 96519408B which is the 848 DP slip on mapping. It is completely reversible should it not suit your set up. Drop me a PM.
Hi Chris.. PM'd you mate...... Thanks again to everyone for the advice.... I wasnt keen on the idea of running a PC to be honest & I know there isnt a bolt on silver bullet for the lean running but hopefully a DP flash will help... I was just amazed at how lean mine & standard bikes run... My old 02 R6 on carbs had a MUCH healthier AFR line than these bikes... I'm told emission laws are partly to blame but thats not helping me if my valves are burning out prematurely....
Doh... done... Massive thanks to Chrisw for the fantastic job on my standard ECU to DP flash... returned the following day & I've fitted it without issue... Cored cans sound epic & thanks to the remapping its peace of mind that my engine isn't slowly dying.... Im spreading the word on this guy as much as I can :biggrin:
