Aprilia Tuono 1100 V4 Factory

  1. I've been thinking about getting another bike for quite a while now so have tried a KTM Superduke 1290R, will be trying a Monster 1200R soon and just the other day got on a Tuono V4 1100 Factory. - Oh yeah!

Only had time for a short go and barely got out of 3rd gear due to congestion but the sound of that engine is sooo good that I urge anyone who might be hesitating to take one for a test ride. Plenty of grunt and the standard exhaust is loud and growly and grin making. The suspension is nice and plush, the brakes top notch. It's a real "event" to ride it and I'm gonna have to go back for an extended run soon. Trouble is, the Pikes Peak has got so much going for it I just know I'm bound to regret selling it in a year or two. Hmmm.....can I justify having both? Spose I'd better get on the Monster first.
    Anyone else tried the Factory?

  2. I'm sorry mate but I'd buy that Tuono factory over the Ducati monster in a heartbeat.

It looks as special and sounds way better, I'd be fairly confident in saying that it'd also pull the monsters pants down in a race quite easily :grinning:

  3. Yeah, it does look good. Just occurred to me, Euro 4 compliant yet? Suspect not.

  4. Tuono all the way!!! Have the two :upyeah:

  5. I'm scared to ride one in case I like it more than my Superduke. But I'm a torque addict so I'll stay with what I've got.
I don't know why they don't put the V4 in the Caponord and make a direct rival to the Multi and the 1000SX. That would really shake things up.

  6. I was hoping the Monster 1200R would be the one to get me off my 2014 Tuono and onto a Ducati again. Sadly not. The 1200R is a great bike but still not sharp enough for my tastes.

I'd have the Tuono for days over the Monster.

  7. Ive recently purchased a Tuono V4R APRC ABS, 2012 model. I've put an Arrow GP2 Titanium exhaust on it and it is just incredible. It's the best bike I've owned (I've had 57)

The front end is so planted and its razor sharp, and that noise, there is nothing better (other than the 1100!)

  8. Yep - the v4 is the reason I still cant part with my RSV4 factory (the oldest one without the aprc stuff). With a full akra system on there and modded ecu, even now 4 years on its still amazing. Ive got my zed for muscle bike duties and when I bought the zed a tuono was an option but a distant one as ive already got the rsv and didn't want the same engine again.

If I could afford to replace the rsv id just get a newer one (RF would be nice!).

  9. Hi all. I test rode a monster 1200R recently, and an S1000R. The S1000R was like an intersteller sewing machine.. I came away wondering if I just rode those 100 miles or did the bike do it by itself. The quickshifter, ABS.. awesome! But was almost too smooth and "soul-less" coming from a V-twin. The Monster was great but I found the gearbox "agricultural" compared to the BMW.... its like Ducati had made no progress since 2002 on that.

Anyhow, Ive decided to trade the 998 in on a naked sometime soon.
I found the 998 impossible to cruise on. It doesn't come into its own until you get the revs up and start to use as it was designed for. Im tired of the superbike thing on the road, so time for a change....

This may sound like a mong question... but Im after a comfortable all-rounder that still has plenty of pep when required.

How does the Tuono ride when at times you just want to cruise about... and not push it too much?
Is a bike like that always willing you to lose your license... or can it provide a fun ride without having to push it all the time to get a fix?
Id like to plan a few trips up to Scotland as well, I hear the newer models have improved Fuel range and Seat comfort?

  10. z1ooo: the most comfortable bike ive ridden so far (and own). Once its been dyno'd with a full system it'll stay on the back wheel of an r1m. And that's after I test rode the s1ooor

  11. I have an 1100 tuono factory and it is excellent
Bat shit crazy as you would expect if you give it an excuse
The power is handled superbly, brakes and suspension inspire
Confidence when nailing it, the quality of parts and build are second to none..which was a major selling point for me..

What I didn't expect was the comfort and the ease of town riding with brilliant fuelling at low speed

If you get a chance to try one you really should

  12. Yep... If i didnt gave my rsv4 a tuono would have been on my list. But the tuono is quite a hike above my zed. As in, in price...

  13. Thanks PETE R,
I'm only 35 miles from Rocket Centre in Lancashire so may just do.

Good to hear about the ease of town riding... Guess that was what I was meaning by "cruising without fanging it everywhere".

Touring wise: Would you think twice about using it for a 1200mile journey (200-350 mile days?)

  14. Touring..
One up with a lightish rucksac and I would consider it..
Take plenty of money for fuel;)

  15. Ha, yes heard this many times.... Bit frustrating that.... sounds a shortcoming of the tuono.
I guess a tail pack would work a treat as it does on most sports orientated bikes.

  16. While I love the tuono's motor. I'm not a fan of the looks in that it's not bad... It just doesn't know what it wants to be... Its got the almost full fairing like it wants to be an rsv4.... But the straight bars to be a naked... I still maintain the zed is the best looking then the sdr1290 but both of those are a few K above mine...

  17. Most nakeds either have a love/hate thing with the styling... I guess you could say this about any motorcycle.

Totally agree about what you say about the tuono styling. It's not sure what it is really... However does offer those interested in superbike power a much more comfortable and electronically enhanced package.
If Ducati could do that with its wonderful styling... What a machine it would be!
I bet the super duke would sell more units if the colour scheme wasn't orange!

  18. Agreed. But I can stress how much fun that v4 lump is... With a pipe on you just gas it to hear it!

  19. 1100 Tuono is also on my list, tested the previous model before getting the 899, loved it.
My question; is the Factory worth the extra £ over the RR? I'm probably unlikely to be reaching the limits of the std RR without actually needing the fully adjustable suspension etc. Or is the RR going to be difficult to sell when it's time for a change cos everyone wants a Factory?
Planning on testing one this weekend.

  20. I owned a 2014 Tuono, that I bought from new, up until a week or so ago. The Tuono is a great bike, the engine is insane.

I then sold it for a new Monster 1200R, not because I didn't like the Tuono but because I'd had enough of dealing with Piaggio UK. It's a true cliche, their parts availability and customer support is still poor in the UK: It took almost 18 months to get a cracked headlight unit replaced as a single example.

The Tuono is a true super-naked, a sports bike without fairings and a high bar. The Monster 1200R is not, it's a roadster that's been uplifted to be more aggressive. That makes a difference in the handling, the Tuono is much sharper.

I've had many Ducati's, likely I'll have more. I doubt I'll own another Aprilia. You can never say never. Others have had much more positive ownership experience than I.
