Waiting for my stepdaughter to jump out of a perfectly good aeroplane. Been here 8 hours so far....... Highlight was the fashionista in skinny jeans, crappie beard and man-bun fainting and having to be walked off white as a ghost.
Just booked for 3 days open pit lane at Almeria in May next year and finished checking the 853 over so we're good to go for Mallery this Friday. Bit of a last minute panic to make sure the generator is running just in case we're not close enough to the sheds but sorted. Just got to load the bikes on the trailer after lunch tomorrow and gently bimble up for a birthday celebratory meal in the Kirkby hotel in the evening. Silverstone next weekend for the MotoGP and Jerez is 4 weeks away today. Can anyone tell I'm all over excited like a big kid at Christmas ? Andy
CR were you borrowing some else race kart? The ones I'm driving are like driving a tuned MX race bike, not something kart tracks rent out. I am being run by a race team.. trying to sort me out but it's a bit late now. I can't see me racing a car again unless I am run by a team and the only level I'd race at that would be beyond what I am prepared to budget. I just hope I can help my boy with my experience, although this experience and some others have taught me, being run by a team with all the kit and knowledge is the only way to go now.. bit chicken and egg as you need the skills to do as they say but it is a huge learning curve to be self taught. I might do a bit of kart racing if I can get to mid field lap times before my first race. At least at this level I can afford to arrive and drive. Then it will be time for my boy to try it. I was running pretty consistent today. I am at 185KG > class is 177KG (well over weight) The other driver a kart racer was 166KG running lead for a lighter class. I was doing 49's he was doing 46 - 47's. He has 4 years Kart racing experience and is 10+ years younger than me in good shape. He seemed perhaps a little smug but I was completely happy. He shunted his kart and bent the chassis in the end. I am not doing anymore until I get down to minim weight limit, fitness is killing me. These go like MX race bikes and corner not that much slower to a single seater with wings... with no suspension, a chest protector is the minum to stop damage ribs. This is low level karting... I've known Kids are spend over 100K at European international level... The international training teams are impressive, the kids driving is brilliant.
Nice one mate. I raced karts years ago and throughout my child hood and teenage years also. Did Rotax mainly, in super one
Can't remember the name. 10 of us did 8 laps practice (I was fastest). Followed by 2x8 lap qualifying (came 2nd and 1st, won 2nd from back of grid). Followed by a 12 lap "main race". Main race starting order was based on best lap times so I started on pole, was never led. Lapped 3/9 other racers and finished 16 seconds clear. Not that I'm competitive....... IMO last race should be in reverse order as when racing with your mates it's about the racing and overtaking that's fun and the last race was a bit dull as it was not competitive. Whole thing took about 3 hours and we shared the track with 2 other groups who were doing similar things so we took turns with track time with them which was good as it means you get time for a drink and a chat and piss taking.
One of the best bits of karting I did was for a mates stag. We split off into teams of 2 or 3 and entered an endurance race. 45 minute stints each for a 3 driver team. I was gasping for a drink half way through but managed quick times. Beat my racing driver boss which I was happy with but was up against a runt of a mate who kept waving as he sailed past on the straights. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
