Shocked by M&P Swansea disregard for Tyre safety selling 4.5 year old tyres ! BEWARE

Discussion in 'Tyres' started by sim900sl, Oct 31, 2012.

  1. No but if you check the build date you may find it is a couple of years old and the dealer is close to going broke.

  2. Oh cmon they were not Bargain Tyres  , one was very old stock, I have bought some Michellin from M&P there not bargain either but are in date made early 2012 , decided to give them another go.

  3. Okay then, what tyres were they and how much did you pay for them?

  4. That's the point htough isn't it - how do you differntiate a competitive price compared to one that reflects shonky goods IF the seller doesn't mention the difference?

  5. How do you know he would have got newer tyres by going to a local tyre centre?

You don't, but common sense would say that as it's their sole trade they'd likely have a higher turnover of tyres. M&P buy in large stocks of all sorts of stuff, then as they start gathering dust they drop the price and shift 'em on. Stands to reason they're gonna be older, that's why they were cheaper...

  6. Abosolutely the point
Just because an item is competively priced doesnt mean its crap , old stock or seconds.
I buy most of my consumer goods on the web and like most search around for a deal, not allways necesarily the cheapest ! M&P are a large outfit and you expect competive pricing with good quaility and service, big companies can buy items cheaper and sell them cheaper (except Dreams whose mark up is x 3.3 !)

  7. But surely is is the same. Only the op wasn't given the info that the tyres were old. If they make it clear then no prob. Kinda like at a supermarket when stuff is reduced.

So if a builder came to your house and quoted you £5k for a extension. You thought it sounded ok in price , and paid upfront. Having not shopped around I might add. Them said extension fell down after 2 years. Would you be saying that the price reflected the workmanship? Or running to get watchdogs tel no.?

  8. So why won't you tell us what tyres and what price then? I'm betting they're old model tyres no longer in production.

  9. They shouldn't need to, simple common sense should tell you this.

  10. Why? Lets say he didn't research said tyres. So no idea on their usual selling price or rrp. How is he to know they were so cheap that they have only 10% of their life remaining?

Common sense can't be mentioned , as then we will ask surely it'd be common sense for the retailer to simply make it known that they are near,y out of date.

  11. If a pair of tyres that normally retails for £200 is on sale for £100, I might smell a rat. If they are on sale for £150, I'd expect a certain standard. At least twelve months of warranty, in my opinion, YMMV.

Without knowing the RRP, the price quoted for the tyre in question by M&P and perhaps the type of tyre, we're basically just waving our protuberances around in the breeze. Can we stop waving them in the breeze now, cos windburn on the old fella is no laughing matter. Trust me, I know.

  12. I think you are missing the point of marketing. If they said "crap out of date tyres for dirt cheap" no-one would ever buy them. If people are to nieve to work it out thentake their money, it is called business.

  13. Me Big retailer you small retailer, me able to buy itemsmore cheaply from distributors and either sell them at same price or cheaper,Big shop needs to sell lots so we sell cheaper to gain more customers, isn’t thiswhat big companies do ? Screwfix , B&Q etc , Quality the same unless wemark down and label as such.
Any way I going back to the footie cmon you Blues

  14. Wrong that isnt business, thats being fraudulent !

  15. Maybe we are getting somewhere now. So if they advertise the date, you in your own words say that "nobody would buy them"

why is this? Because the buyer now realises why they are so cheap.

Nothing to do with marketing. They could simply put a footnote to say they was produced in AUG2008 for example.

Then the buyer can make a informed decision whether to proceed.

I do hope you aren't in business and treat your customers like that , as said business won't be lasting much longer in this climate unless your product is one off or your target audience is massive.

Many businesses, inc bike related ones are going bust. This is the reasons why, as people tell everyone they can when they have a bad experience.

  16. Finally we agree on something!

  17. Please, do us all a favour and pay full RRP for everything you buy, then you can moan all you want if it isn't what you wanted. And leave us to the bargain hunting, cos we know what we're up against.

  18. Good comeback. Really it is.

I never moaned. Simply stated my facts and asked a few questions and now you have nowhere to argue in my opinion

  19. Think about this. If everyone shops online for cheap gear then sends it back cos it isn't 100% perfect, no-one will offer bargains online any more, cos it's too much hassle, and that means that everyone pays more. There are those of us out there (me included) who can quite clearly see that buying stuff cheap comes with a proviso of some sort, but we're prepared to put up with that cos the stuff was cheap. I don't want anyone to fcuk up that cosy arrangement for me.

If the tyres were dangerous, which they quite clearly weren't, I'd understand why they were sent back. There was still a year's warranty on them, before which they'd have probably been worn out and replaced. And they were cheap. What the hell is wrong with that deal..?
