Parking Lights. Pointless Battery Drainer?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Greenhorn, Aug 30, 2016.

  1. I parked up at work on Friday morning and left the bike steering locked as per usual.

A colleague noticed that I'd left the parking lights on and let me know about 11am.

So The bike had been left with them on for about 2.5 hours. After which point it wouldn't start.

Possibly my battery isn't charging properly, but I don't think so. Is it just that parking lights are a totally useless addition on a bike (or a car for that matter)?

At least on a car you have to manually turn the lights on as a separate action. On a bike it's very easy to turn the key that little bit further and unwittingly drain your battery.

Or maybe it's just me being clumsy. Either way, bike left at work over a sunny long weekend and me trolling in this morning with the optimate in my bag. Grrrr.

  2. If the parking lights drain your battery in just a few hours, then I would suggest that the battery is probably close to demise anyway.
Change the Parking lights to LED ones and the battery drain will be less than a tenth of what it was should you make the same mistake again.

  3. Absolutely.
I have swapped my 999 in-screen parking light for a bright white led one and use it as a bright daytime running light.
I also have an led board in my tail light for maximum brightness and minimum drain.
    Way to go.

  4. Cheers guys. I think I might be getting myself some new LED lights. And maybe a new battery.

  5. So you're so careless you can't operate the switch properly, and it's everyone else's fault? Look within young man:Troll:

  6. Careful with that wit of yours, I wouldn't want you to cut yourself.

  7. Yuasa AGM unless you're brave enough to go for Lithium...

  8. Very happy with the lithium on my 848, my phone, my laptop, and many other things. Of the thousands of riders in the world who have Lithium batteries fitted (some as standard equipment from Ducati), there may be 10 who have had a problem and made lots of noise on the web, but the silent majority are happy.
