i dont advertise the fact that i run a no fix no fee diagnostic service or life time warranty on labour or the fact i only charge £40 ph on book times run by a guy with extensive experience on fiats and alfas with DET status or that i have ford, renault dealership experience toped up with 5years as a German car specialist. nope i wouldnt do that anywhere.
So, I add 50% Stones Green Ginger wine to cheapo Scottish, do I need to add this to Tesco fuel to resolve any issues
I agree that some fuels are better than others - as far as it goes. If you do long continental tours, you will have to fill up with whatever petrol you can find. It's not much good saying "I only use Shell" if you're on an autostrada in the middle of Italy down to running on fumes. Tesco, Sainsburys and Morrisons do not own any oil refineries. All their petrol is purchased from the companies which do. Big oil companies often sell consignments of fuel to each other, although they don't like to admit this when they are trying to differentiate their products with expensive advertising. The operators of petrol stations are rather like the landlords of pubs. They all sell beer/petrol, but some keep their tanks more meticulously than others. Some fuel storage tanks are decades old and probably have a layer of crap and water in the bottom, which (if you are unlucky) can find its way into your own fuel tank. When I am at home I like to use a nearby place which had all its underground tanks replaced recently - never mind what name is displayed on the marquee. I would take a lot of convincing that anybody can really tell the difference between 95 octane and 98 octane petrol, or between petrol with or without 5% ethanol, or between Shell and Esso, from the way their engine runs while riding along. Rather like an extra 2 psi in the tyres - a big dose of wine-tasters bullshit syndrome, I think. Still, it's entertaining to read people sounding off about this stuff.
yes its really annoying when random folks just wander into a thread so nonchalantly with not a modicum of science behind their posts to back up why they travel to shell to fill up their cars and bike on well marketed but not much better fuel than the stuff at supermarkets that is obviously just as good...
Went for a ride last week with a mate "I need some petrol soon" says I. He says "cheapest place round here is.." "stop right there" says I, " I'll go to the Shell garage thanks, I'm not looking for cheapest".
Good man creamy... Spoke to Geoff earlier in the week. The R is being well fettled but having to wait on parts so collection delayed another week
For what it's worth I always use super on the bike. I am sure when I had a gsxr1000 I could feel a slight difference on faster response with super. Nothing scientific just felt better.
For the sake of a few pennies it's an indulgence our bikes deserve even if it's placebo effect! Incidentally I know many reputable tuners and engine builders in bike and car world that could build a fairly convincing argument in not much time about why higher octane branded fuel is better
I use whatever I can siphon from the lawnmower. I don't have a high top speed but the verges I pass are beautiful.
Must admit I can't tell the difference between shell fuel and tescos fuel in the bike but it makes a difference in the car it pinks like bugger on cheep fuel.
Hi, my car pinks. Really, it's pinks. Yeh my car pinks. Cheap fuel, yep, I've heard of pinks, nothing to do with bikes having pinks. Sir, take the bike.
95 should be just that, 95. If your car pinks on supermarket 95 but not on brand 95, you should complain to trading standards about it. For all our sakes, they shouldn't get away with selling fuel that doesn't meet the standard.
I use supermarket fuel and have nothing against it. However, if someone is experiencing pinking on supermarket 95 but not on branded 95, then something would appear to be wrong and it should be reported to trading standards so they can check if both fuels are to the 95 octane standard as sold. Fuel does vary from area to area and maybe some sharp practice is going on here.
