  1. Hi all,
Got a cbr rr at the mo, but been thinking of trading in for a supersport 1000 ss, as i just love v twins and always wanted a Ducati lol

My Q is are they any good and reliable ? , i know it may not be as good as honda but still gota ask. lol

  2. Hey jack, Yep you'll find they are pretty much reliable and reasonable good in these more modern times. Just buy one and enjoy the V twin experience. lol.

  3. the thou is a good one to go for.

  4. I've got one an totally love it, I have a Firestorm too which is very, very good but the 1000SS clinches it. If I was going out for a blast with no real objective other than to get down to business I would take the Ducati, if I was going somewhere for a reason say to a meeting I would take the Honda.
    They are nothing like Honda's!
This is quoted from on old post on here which sums up the SS. The 1000SS has better suspension a lovely swingarm, white clocks like the Sport Classic range..
    "Lovely, lovely bikes.
I have the 900, which I've had from new, 12 years ago.
For "real World" use, they have all the grunt you need. As standard, yes, maybe a little lazy turning but it's awesomely planted mid turn.
Yes, smaller capacity multi-cylinder stuff will beat it in terms of pure performance numbers, but they don't have the same ability to put a huge smile on your face. I love the fact that it'll do the business, in a heart warming, old fashioned way.
Pride of ownership and that beautiful desmo sound in abundance.
And values are sure to rise in the not too distant future, making them a sound investment.."[IMG]

  5. do it jump in feet first
just don't compare the ducati against jap inline 4
    they are different beasts
but just as exciting just in different ways
and how many times do you get people stop and say
    ooh look a Honda ........:)

  6. Thanks for the info,,Trutman i agree Ive had a firestorm a few years ago and loved it, untill the front cct went and smashed the front cylinder was cheaper to sell the bike than repair. but i did miss it.

Right its just a case of sorting stuff with the shop !

BTW whats the difference i see there are some SS and DS ?

  7. Well my front CCT went last week so the bike is stripped down ready for new ones, hopefully the engine is OK, I think it is.
The SS is a DS..(Dual Spark) plugs. So it's sometimes called a 1000SS DS but all 1000SS's are DS. Only someone was trying to sell one recently that wasn't a DS but some "very rare" 1000cc engine Ducati made just for him. It was a 900SS and rough at that.

  9. No actually, I'm going to do the "stopper mod" to a set of new Honda CCT's
Picture below of the spring I have just taken out.

  10. lol didn't even see mine totally smashed it all up think one valve embedded its self in the piston head. got more for the bike in parts,, my in time get another nice bikes

  11. have actually seen this one in the flesh looks good and standard was offered it cheaper without servicing etc

  12. can i ask when did they stop production of the 900ss ? as ive seen one on a 09 plate ?

  13. 2003? A lot were unsold and unregistered till later

  14. ok if that's so is there any known issues with them ? seen a low mlg one and it looks nice

  15. Nope, theyre great bikes. Just check all the usual stuff, belts for example

  16. There were two models of 900 towards the end, the SS and the Sport. The sport was more basic. I think it had non adjustable suspension. Maybe a metal swingarm too. I seem to remember 900 Sports being sold as new unregistered for 4k for several years after production ceased.

  17. yeh is showing as a ss. ok cool ill send for details and see if a deal can be had :)

  18. Yep, I remember that too

  19. Will be a big drop from 165bhp to 80bhp lol  but it my actually feel fun riding again,, the blade is very good and v fast, but sadly might be to good and has no real sole as it just gets on with its thing and helps you lose your license, if could afford both then i would keep it, and also have room to store it .. but sadly not
