1200 DVT Is The Dvt Really That Unreliable??

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by DBD1199, Jul 6, 2016.

  1. Main Issue for now is my dealer.

1st of all i put my motorcycle for sale on an ad in web, with all defects that it has. And then they called me saying that they are going to make a criminal complaint for defamtion! They say when i go to the first service, they did not have on the worksheet the defects registered!!!! By that dealer shows the lack of seriousness... I have changed my ad and they tell that Ducati authorize them not to repair my motorcycle !!! LoL !!! I had to ask me to replace me at work, to avoid being fired, and then immediately took the bike there, because he told me that there just taking the bike is the only way to repair the defects that I complain.

Quite the opposite! All my fault upping the lever from the 4 to 5 gear that came to neutral! All my fault of my driving style that the shift lever rubber is "destroyed"!
And if the bike does not start yesterday, but if start up today it is because the problem is solved!

Lack of humility, lack of competence, lack of seriousness...

  2. Nice to hear about problems that Jap bike manufacturers have... Ducati's seem to get a bad press with owners niggles and gripes but you always seem to get the bad news not the good. I suppose that's the nature of forums in general.
FWIW I've owned my DVT since May this year (brand new - I'll admit to wanting the warranty!) and it's brilliant. Worth mentioning also that my dealer (Seastar, Ducati Norfolk) have also been brilliant, really helpful with a couple of things that have needed sorting.
I do agree though that the front brake discs don't seem of good enough quality. I've had one set replaced under warranty after about 2500 miles and the replacements are feeling like they could well go the same way as the old...

  3. wow, talking about hard feelings towards other brands...

And Rainman talked about only 1 issue on his Jap bike, a rear shock issue.

In all honesty, I own a Jap and I looking into buying a Multi in the future, (addictive bike, test riding it was a bad idea, now have to get one), but when you see more complaints on Ducati boards than on Jap bike boards, I think you can conclude that says something about both.

Its true ppl will rather ventilate their niggles and gripes, than share their positive notes.
But that's something you will see on all boards, for jap bikes and ducati's, and when you see a difference between the 2, that on duc boards the negatives are much present more than on jap boards, I believe says something for how reliable a make is, in general.
    Its like a survey.

I always do research on owner boards about the bikes I am interested in.
Its not that owners of Japanese bikes do not complain when their bikes have niggles...in fact, the contraire is right, they would not expect a jap bike to have many niggles so they are the first to complain.
    I know what I am talking about....(I ride a CB1100EX)

And in my research, I have seen a topic about the Multi, dedicated to only niggles and realiability issues.
Its a brand new bike, and the topic had already +100 pages (MS board), those things are more an exception than rule on a Jap bike board.

  4. You are probably right but I have not looked at any jap bike boards because I really have no interest in them. I am not sure why that is because it has two wheels and an engine like all motorcycles but for me only european machines open my eyes and get my pulse going. At the top of that pile sits Ducati followed in no particular order by BMW,KTM,MV Augusta,Triumph etc.

  5. Before coming to Ducati I've had jap bikes for 30 years and mostly never had any issues (apart from the 80s chocolate cams and bottom end on my CBX550 but since having had blackbirds, VFRs and lastly a ZZR1400s I have not had one single problem, where as with all 3 MTS I've had a catalogue of issues including my DVT, however I still love the MTS and puts a smile on my face every time I ride it, I have just learn to accept that this will always be the case and live with it. I have never been brand passionate before with Jap bikes like I have with Ducati. I just wish they would get their shit together regarding the quality of the products they use.

  6. Are you that old?

  7. Unfortunately yes!!! It's been 37 years since I was riding around on a Garelli Tiger Cross before I seized it, no one told me you had to mix oil with petrol lol.

  8. Catch up when I'm back, hopefully there's still a few days of riding to be had before the inevitable salt frenzy, btw have the new Speedmaster on order

  9. So am now on 3900 miles, 3 trackdays, no big tours so all day trip stuff. Issues to date: screen replaced as badly marked/scratched, fuel sender at 600 miles, rear brake switch.

Has started every time. Even after almost 3 momths sat not on an optimate. Finish holding up ok, no worse than most bikes 12m old amd used a bit.

So in summary: starts, stops, steers, works. :fearscream: Just like all my Ducatis have. Maybe I'm just lucky....having had a K5 1000 with loads of electrical issues (not all my making!) and a D675 blow its engine to bits within a few miles.

  10. so in the rich history of Japanese motorcycles there was not a single bike that somehow could catch your attention?

  11. I owned a Honda CBX 550 and apart from the rattly cam chain it was an ok commuter. If I think hard ..Honda do sometimes build an appealing naked machine.

  12. I had a 550 Four back in the day, and then a 750 (which used to break down in the rain). The 550 was lovely.

  13. My brother had a Tiger cross, I had a Fantic Caballero super six, loved mine and they were both quick (about 7 bhp lol)

  14. my 3 months old, 9000km 2016 1200S DVT problem so far :
-Jerky throttle response 2-4k rpm(throttle reset a few times at dealer but still the same),
-dash produce rattling noise when shake,
-engine cut off when clutch in at low speed occasionally(getting more frequent, bike sent to dealer twice but no solution yet)

  15. Nice :) I still have my 3570, just picked a lovely Bremont ALT-C CR and NDc . Seem to be constantly buying selling at the moment.

  16. I loved my CBX550, didn't have any cam issues but the bottom end gave way, then got a VF750, that ate cams!!!! hence the gear driven cams on the replacement VFR. Got the new CBR1000FH when they first came out and from them on never had an issue with jap bikes up to modern days before buying into the Ducati brand

  17. That would have been the shaft driven VF750S I'm guessing? I had one of those too - my worst ever bike purchase. When it was new it was great, fantastically smooth power delivery. But once you got to about 5,000 miles the cams had no end of problems as they seemed to have been made of chocolate. :rage:

I ended up trading it in on a Suzuki GSX550 and having to swallow the enormous amount of depreciation on the Honda. It put me off Hondas for years until I got a CBR600F and then the fireplace that followed it - which were both wonderful bikes

  18. It was the vf750f, the sports version, great looking bike but wished I had bought a CBX750 instead, much better bikes.

  19. I've done just over 10,000 miles in the last 18 months on my 1200S DVT. Only the usual niggles: fuel sender & side stand replacements, both under warranty, and the initial problem with the trips resetting on ignition off was resolved by a software update. The engine seems to run better now after various software / map updates over the last year. Plus I had the wiring loom for the auxiliary LED lights replaced under warranty after the lights starting switching on / off and throwing a fault light up on the display.

I must admit that my Honda is also very reliable especially as I never maintain or clean it. It always starts first time even after being left all winter. Best lawn mower I've ever had:) Now, if Ducati made lawn mowers ......

  20. Update on my 2015 DVT Multi now over 6000 miles. J&L at Carlisle been quite good. Givi Ducati branded topbox rack r/h support frame paint bubbled - replaced with new. Full day in dealer recently. New mid section of exhaust due to seized power valve. Air sensor and seat replaced under warranty (don't know why the seat was TBH?). Whilst in they also checked front disc brakes. Since new it's needed an initial squeeze of the brake lever before getting full power. Also a strange sensation that one disc was grabbing before the other or starting to warp. Anyway brakes stripped cleaned and rotors cleaned. Rotors were clogged apparently? Anyhow front brakes feel alot better now. All under warranty. Courtesy bike for the 7 hours was an ER650F with an akro. So was well pleased to get the Duc back lol.
