Right.... I'm a complete novice and not mechanically minded whatsoever.. And I have a Multistrada 1200, 2012 ABS. I'm wanting a USB socket to plug my phone into and use it as Sat Nav etc.. (Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge) Is there a plug and play solution or is that asking too much?
Tank bag with electrical usb-jobbie thrown in is how I do mine. But new bikes come with usb in rear compartment now anyhow.
I wish it was that simple.... Not having the financials to afford a new one hinder me as well as being the mechanical fucktard that I am!!
I've bought one of these but not fitted yet. Look at this on eBay 12v Waterproof Motorbike USB Power Socket Adapter Charger Outlet Motorcycle | eBay
And one of these that I strapped to the top yolk with cable ties. Does work. Look at this on eBay Handy Motorcycle Handlebar Holder Mount Waterproof Bag Case for Mobile Phone GPS | eBay
Ebay item 380803377554 or google hella usb plug. will plug into one of the two hella sockets below the seat I believe theses are only powered when the bike is on. You could also look at ebay item 191858200987 Then put male spade connectors on the two terminals and after un plugging the connector from the hella socket on the bike put the spade connectors in the female spade sockets on the plug. you will need to make sure the polarity is correct though
There is a dummy plug/lead behind the fairing on the left hand side for this very purpose. I would say however, that I have a 1 amp socket installed and when using TomTom on my phone it doesn't seem enough to maintain charge for longer distances. I did consider getting a 2.1 amp lead but was concerned the high drain would knacker the phone battery! I did search this after your post (as was thinking about getting a USB socket for mine like I had on my 848) and Ducati.ms thread says that dummy lead is for the GPS and does not have enough power to correctly power a phone unless the phone is off..... Most of them seemed to run a lead from the battery like the £7 odd one mentioned up this thread.
I have powered a SteelMate TP-90 TPMS AND my phone (while it's working with navigation on and music playing) and it works fine. It doesn't charge as quickly but it provides enough power for me. The real problem in my case is that the phone gets really hot and shuts down after some time ...
Optimate do a usb attachment....in fact loads of stuff to hang off the charging plug...ive obviously got the battery tender but I keep the usb charger and the light under the seat... optimate usb - Google Search
