Hello. I'm close to buying a Multistrada 1200 DVT. Base or S are one of the big questions. But first... are there any changes due for the 2017, compared to the 2016? Roger
My vote is with the S, there are a few more differences than just the electronic suspension, which as far as I'm concerned is worth it on its own, brakes and lights being just two of them. Haven't seen if there is a new model yet for 2017 so can't answer that one.
Think dealers have had 2017 models in already as it has the hill start like the Enduro thats about the only change sure someone already mentioned it on a post somewhere
Thanks guys...Bikes and cars are crazy expensive over here in Norway. S 23100£ and Base 20300£. This are prices without any of the accessory packs. I'm tempted to use the ekstra money on the S, but then I have to spend less on my everyday hoopla...beer, women etc
Roger go for the S it's the best, I ride a 2015 DVT here in Norway, Drink less beer, the woman love the ride
Easyer to wait for one month or over a year. Som dealers have 2016 in store, if I can order a 2017 for the same price with higher specs, I will wait a few weeks. Specs will almost allways change ever year.
Erm um errrrrr um let me think about that, no let me contemplate a little more, then maybe after a period of contemplation...........get the fecking thing bought, but I'm a pragmatist..... Apparently lol
I'd hope the next upgrade goes some way to levelling the performance of the multi compared to the BMW XS. There are now plenty of reviews on YouTube that are direct compos between the two and I hate to say the Beemer engine seriously kicks butt. One compo has a dino followed by drag race. Beemer was easily the strongest engine. The quick shifter also sounds brilliant. Those are the two upgrades that would tempt me to part with my current 2015 DVT. I love the bike, it's more pleasing to the eye than the Beemer, handles fully loaded up like a dream and more importantly it's a Ducati! But things move on and there will need to be upgrades to keep me with the brand when I change. Hill start on its own won't do it for me.
My mates got the latest BMW Xr, and it's true, on the way through France we did a couple of roll on tests and the BM monsters the multi, but that was it, proved a point, done now. About a minute later after slowing from high speed we passed a hidden police car, and that's the point, in these days of ever more draconian speed limits and penalties, is a bit more power on a touring bike relevant ? It's not for me, and I reckon a lot of these get used for touring, and when you do get to the mountains for some more spirited riding, it's hardly left wanting as it is. For me they should concentrate on reliability and quality control before extra performance.
Buy the "S" as from my limited experience, the boggo models struggle to sell come the time, the "S" has skyhook, colour dash, bigger brakes and full LED headlights. I think thats about it but its definitely worth it come sale time. PS. The XR is an ugly munter that even its mother could not love, and the bars feel like a pair of ann summers toys at cruising speed, Smutlystrada all day long for my money
Thanks all for the input. I will probably go for the S with the touring pack. The XR is ugly. But it may be a good bike in there somewhere.
I'm sure there is a great bike in there, but it vibrates way too much, and it is an ugly parts bin panzer tank(IMO). There is also the question of having an in line 4 in this kind of bike ? I have tried them all this year and have just bought my 2nd "S"mutley, and the only other bike that even came close to what I wanted was the KTM 1290 GT, great bike but not as comfy and so I settled for the Duke for big mileage, but that KTM motor is something else. The KTM electronics are epic, but just not as user friendly, the menus are really fiddly. I did try the XR for the 3rd time this year as BMW (Bahnstormer)phoned and said they had nearly cured the vibes, it is better than the 1st one I tried, but still buzzy. They suggested bar weights, but I have a problem spending £16k on a bike that does not work straight out of the box, but when push comes to shove, I prefer a twin for this kinda bike. Whatever you choose, I'm sure it will be a great bike, but IMO the duke was the better bike of the three.
How are the windscreen on the Super Duke GT? Seems to be low. The bike looks really badass and kind of mental. Beeing 6,3 tall, I think a taller screen are needed for the Multistrada.
I'm only 5"11 so can't really give a decent opinion on the screen, but for my height it was fine. They do look "bad ass" from the side and back, but the full frontal image is not to everyone's taste. Looks a bit like the big shouldered robots at the end of fifth element IMO. KTM 1290 GT pictured below
