I hear this all the time when I turn up to track days. Usually something like "wow you're brave" or "I wouldn't be tracking that" etc Anyone else get this on their bike(s) Christ I mean you spend all that money on it and don't use it for what it was designed for?? Surely that's a bit like not shagging your girlfriend so you can save her for the next bloke?
Yes agree also, I have tracked all my road bikes except the multi, I tracked my pani when it was only a few weeks old. Though I did nearly regret that when I ballsed it up going into Stowe at Silverstone.
Absolutely. Track days are all about learning to ride your bike properly, without the worry of incoming cars and speed limits!! Sent from my HUAWEI NXT-AL10 using Tapatalk
Would love to track my 1299 but made the "mistake" of putting Akra's on so now have to look to Europe for my track thrills...
Yep I've had the same comments many times before. These bikes are made for the track and yes; while there's a risk of dropping it the fun outweighs the fear in my opinion. Just bought a new Panigale R and it's first venture after running it in is Portimao for 3 days!
Its too good NOT to track. I use my 1199R on the track - after all it what its designed for. Take a few precautions to soften the blow if you do stack it but in my view you are more likely to have an accident on the road.
Too expensive for me to throw down a track but I certainly appreciate the appeal of it. Public Roads are a bloody nightmare. If I personally was going to do it, I'd just get a cheaper bike, something around £50. Yeah £50, it's all I have.
Brands Hatch is the only one thats a definite no no without the stock exhausts. Most of the other tracks are possible as long as it's not a quiet day, you'll just need baffles on the MSV tracks Snetterton, Oulton, etc.
I think my bikes are too nice to track even though I agree with everybody's opinions about that's what they're built for and its safer etc. The more I ride on the road the more I become frustrated with other traffic and speed restrictions. I feel like I want to give it more all the time but obviously it's not possible, responsible or safe. Ive seen specialist Ducati track days where you can hire a bike of your choice. I wouldn't be able to do many track days a year due to never ending work commitments but wouldn't mind paying to use a hired bike from time to time. I think the excess is £1k if you bin it. But let's be honest if it fell off the stand in the paddock it would do that amount of damage, and the chances are it would cost you a lot more if it was your own bike that went down the track. Maybe the way forward for those that don't want to risk their own bikes.
I did 3 track days this year on my precious 899, bloody loved it & enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. The bike really comes alive & makes more sense if you know what I mean. My advice to anyone considering it is to crack on, you'll love it & your bike will !
And yet most real track bikes cost way more than the road bike equivalent. Although can't say I have heard this comment much about my bikes
I've somehow amassed a collection of 4 Ducatis and I'm fighting the itch to buy another, but every time I start considering it I think to myself I'll look for one that's mechanically sound but a bit rough around the edges that I can use for track days without worrying about it, but I always end up with a minter that's too nice! Maybe I should just buy a jap bike!:Shy:
Get it all the time its designed for the track not just to be kept clean to ride from meet to meet! People don't know what they are missing
I do get that all the time with my 1198. But then people do say it's nice to see it ridden properly when they see the back tyre shredded.
