After much discussing on here of 4XV R1 values being £6, £7K or so - they chip in with a maximum of £4200 for mint. They may be a bit late with recent market moves. Also 916SPS values have been discussed with differing views of late - interestingly (to some) there is a 98 916SPS coming up at Bonham's sale Sunday 16th October with a guide of £10 - £12K so we will soon see
Great looking bike in the photos....but I might be biased as it's mine. Being into bikes and photography I found it an interesting couple of hours when they came down to do the photo shoot. I was surprised how slow they can ride and get their knee down (I don't ride like that so only see knee down when watching racing). Hopefully I'm getting a disc with all the photos from the shoot so will post some on here if I'm allowed.
Well, today a parcel arrived with a couple of copies of the magazine and a disc of photos. I'm a keen photographer but the standard of professional stuff is, as you'd expect, just a notch higher than your average Joe will achieve. I looked through them and just think the following photo is great! I think the "less is more" approach pays off here. If you look professional photographers always fill less of the frame with the subject, unless taking specific subject matter for close ups. Here's one of mine from the day. Reminds me what a wonderful place the south east can be if you avoid London and Brighton. Everyone from Sussex will no doubt know this bend! Even on possibly the brightest day of the year two studio lights were needed! I must say I found the whole thing enjoyable and interesting. It's the first time I've heard the bike ridden by someone else. It's amazing how loud old bikes are on the standard exhausts compared to new bikes, you could certainly hear it coming. In the photos it looks like they're riding hard but that isn't the case, I was amazed how slow he can get his knee down as the speeds were pretty normal. I guess they develop a skill to make the photos look good, and the journalist and photographer work together a lot so that must help. They're also nice guys that you can just talk bikes with, Phil even bought me an ice-cream!
Your review sold another copy, I bought one yesterday. A good read - particularly the feature on 851/888's!
I'm famous again....well the bike is. They used photos from this shoot in the MCN issue today (26 April 2017) which has a similar article to the Practical Sports bike article. Nice surprise on the train this morning!
This thread is 7 plus years old, but interesting on the original bikes prices in that period by the OP, and yes i do know those bends very well indeed.!
