just purchased some marchesini wheels for my 996, few scratches on so would like to have them painted in gold or silver , anyway question is paint or powder coat , whats the most durable and do you get the same good finish with powder coat as paint as i want them to look good, ta kev
I just had some wheels powder coated, one was a new wheel but was the wrong colour. They look as good as new, so no worries there and I'm told that it is very durable...
Powder coating is more durable than normal paint. Have you considered anodising if they are aluminium?
thanks for the reply guys, no hadnt consired anodising, think that would be pretty sweet, i know one is aluminiun(rear), other wheel was said magnesuim (front), is there any way i could tell from markings if it is magnesuim? was looking at the mercedes super chrome look powder coating they have on the SLK on the local powder coating businesses site, looks good on the site wheels, kev
My OZ wheels come anodised as standard so thought it might be worth suggesting. I would imagine its be even more hard waring.
Are your wheels magnesium? I'm pretty sure you cant powder coat magnesium. Please correct me if I'm wrong
Well a quick look on google and there are lots of threads/forums that talk about the subject. And the general consensus is that you can. But what do they know? I'd suggest talking to a powder coating company rather than people on the internetz that know nothing
is there any markings that suggest it is magnesium, i was told it was, but dosnt seem any differant markings from rear?
Post up some pics mate. I couldn't get Crankers link to work but I think he means this outfit. TPCS Magnesium and Alloy Refurbishing Top drawer.
ally wheels have the ridges on the spokes, mag wheels don't, just noticed this comment on another article, does this mean my fronts a alloy?
