3 years on from the last post. Going for a blast Sunday morning and then fitting the r1 twisty grip Sunday afternoon. Question.....Am I wasting my Sunday afternoon , and do I need glue ?
The 999 is not fun at low revs. At best, it can be made bearable. Try not to place in that position, is the best advice.
If you can. If you can't, get the 999 working as best you can to overcome the low revs pain (gearing, throttle mod, take your weight off your wrists the best way you can). The twisties make up for the villages. If you only commute on your 999 through town, you aren't going to love your bike.
My experience is that the throttle is a little quicker but not night and day. However, the elimination of slack in the cable is a revelation, seriously improving driveability

I find the 999 to be far more comfortable to ride than the 748 I used to have. I recently did a 90 minute trip, some dual carriageway, some A roads and B roads, when I got off the bike I could actually still walk and control my arms I agree about the crap low speed riding, but the thing is, you get to where you're going, you get off and look at the bike and then all of its 'faults' are forgiven
