Hello Guys, coming back to biking and using my wifes Yamaha XVS 125 and loving it, sad I know. Anyway, I was planning on a Street Triple in early '17 but walked into a local Ducati dealer and saw my boyhood dream bike (from 1996) but all 2016 ish. Great salesman explained the latest set up and made me an offer that was too tempting. Paid 11750CHF - about 8'500 GBP. 5 mins to purchase is perhaps too much artistic licence but as it offered everything I wanted, especially the driving modes I jumped in. Ps I guess most of you end up in sport? Anyway, I pick the bike up Saturday. Totally standard but suits me as a return biker. Any essential or usual mods etc from the experienced mass on here? I live in Switzerland so its mostly great B roads (for those who know, the Grimsel, Susten pass etc are 45minutes drive away). Heres a pic.
I thought about this also! Great country - I'm a Geordie- been here 14 years. Roads are to die for (no pun intended)
Nice! Great part of the world too - I did a trip on a Diavel earlier this year (http://ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/diavel-carbon-bike-world-trip.45972/) and rode the Oferalpass, Grimsel, and Furkapass. Plus the Fluelapass, and plenty others in Italy, Austria etc. Amazing part of the world you live in - I'm extremely envious! Great looking bike too - mine is white, but I often wish I'd had a red one. Enjoy!
Welcome Chris, I had my 821 for 10 months my first monster, so impressed I bought its bigger brother for a bit more torque and a lot more money Essentials for me were Rad guard and engine protector, so exposed at the front, then Tail tidy, I went with Evotech but R&G is an alternative, but that is here in the UK.
Hi - I did something similar, walked into Ducati and traded my 2-year-old Tuono for a new Monster 1200R. They took all my money, PID'd and registered the bike within 4 hours.
So update after first 250km. Great support from the garage, first drive off and everything feels tight - a good, crisp, well engineered tight (I'm an engineer by trade). Really easy to ride, great clutch and the RBW throttle are both very smooth and progressive. I put it in urban as I'm coming back to biking so power and throttle are a bit easier to control. Neutral was impossible to find at first and only appears after 150km. Now its "ok" but I hope this improves. I missed having no gear indicator at first but the revs gives the info needed (see below on the happy revs level) Everythings loosing up now and each km gets better especially the engine which is really flexible but seems happier to be above 3'500rpm. Garage told me to keep below 6'000rpm so I need to pass the 1000km run-in ASAP As this thing wants to rev. Handling is also unbelievable - my last big bike was a Kwak ZXR750 from 1994 and that was a handfull. Quite simply I'm totally happy with my choice. Can't wait to try "sport" mode.
