Coming to a workplace near you..?

  1. Carparks right underneath a City of London workplace with 24/7 security don't come cheap. The landlord charges my company, they charge me. Don't see a problem with that.

  2. I can understand now why people get the hump when I turn up on site (to fix the aircon) and nick their space...

  3. Bearing in mind that cars pay £4.5k a year to park in our carpark, if I drove in, I'd be pissed off, too, if somebody had nicked my space.

  4. Point taken, I'll be more careful in future. I'll make sure I only park in the spaces of people who annoy me:biggrin:

  5. I think the real difference is those of use who live and work in small towns against those like Paivi who live and work in large cities. Two very different points of view, two very different ways of working.

  6. Glad I work from home

  7. It seems that office-based staff accept that there's a price to pay for site parking, but blue collar types expect it as a working right. In the same way I guess as blue collar workers getting work clothes supplied while office staff have to provide their own. For me, I can't accept the fact that, as an employee, I would be expected to pay out of my own pocket to go to work.

  8. Would you pay for the bus if it went past your door and past work's door? Is that not paying to go to work? Sorry I am feelinga bit pedantic tonight.

  9. not being funny, who do you expect to pay for you to go to work?

  10. Would this be a tax deductible expense or hasn't anybody asked IR that question

  11. I'm not talking about paying to go to work, I'm talking about paying to be at work. It costs everyone to get to work, be it in pedal power, fuel, or fares. But it seems only office workers get clobbered for parking at work. I don't know anyone that works in a workshop or factory environment that has to pay to park at work. And while I have to pay for parking while working round London, I pass the bill on to my clients - none of them would expect me to pay for the privilege of fixing their a/c.

  12. but this is a different scenario. In one case, I'm going to the office that I go to whenever I'm not working from home. In your case, you're travelling to clients, which probably change daily. I don't know anyone who drives to work and parks at work every day, but that's probably a London thing.

  13. Effectively, it could be if you could prove it was wholly, exclusively and necessarily incurred in order to perform your duties. 'Necessarily' is where most people will fail, as HMRC are not known for common sense: if your commute by public transport took several hours, they'd still expect you to do that, as opposed to commuting by car.

  14. I walk to work........from the bedroom to the kitchen, to the bathroom, then back to the bedroom, to the kitchen and then to my offices (halfway between the bedroom and the kitchen)........

.....I suppose 'they' will try to make me pay for parking on my own drive.....but which drive?? The one nearest my offices or the one furthest away?

I know....I'll tell them I use the bike.........................on second thoughts, no I won't...they will charge extra for it being under cover.

Mind you, the way things are going, we will soon be getting charged to sit down at work......or have a pee......getting very close to how Mr Mug*be operates.

Actually, I don't really see how any government body, whoever they are, can levy a charge (read 'tax') on employees to park at work when it is on what is private property............unless of course it is levied by HMRC based on 'benefits in kind'.

Quite frankly it is getting more than ridiculous in the UK......in fact it is getting out of effin hand and I'm sick of it......the sooner we get people with some real intelligence running this country, the better it will be.

  15. We charge a £10.00 delivery charge for each delivery address with an extra £10.00 per address in the Congestion Charge Zone, that is for refrigerators, but we would not expect our manufacturing workers to pay for parking because our factory is not in an expensive built up area. Face facts we are in Bognor Regis we practically have to pay people to come down here, I cannot imagine being charged to park to work here.
