1199 Melted R/hand Lower Fairing....

  1. Forgive me if this subject has been covered previously but just wanted some best ideas on future prevention...
The lower r/h fairing has suffered some burning around exhaust opening. Caused by the exhaust spring mounting point rubbing the plastic. There is also some heat 'discolouration ' further back (see photo). I have some ideas on how to prevent this happening to a new panel but would be interested in hearing what others have done to theirs...

  2. I believe this is why the later models had a bung to push the fairing out/keep away from pipe

  3. Had a similar problem on my 999s which burnt a huge hole in it!! I bought a new panel and put a load of heatshield in it around the area and was fine, but the Pani does fit a bit closer... not got it on mine, maybe you could try to fit a bung as @Advikaz mentioned?

  4. Well surprising news - Ducati head office have agreed to replace the panel as a good will gesture. Even tho the bike does have the modification I'll get a new panel. To say I'm gobsmaked is an understatement. I've had numerous bikes these last 30 years - all but one Japanese and never received this level of customer service on a 3 year old bike which is out of factory warranty. A design issue/fault yes but at least they've taken some positive action...well done Ducati.

  5. i had 4 replacements from ducati for those

  6. Interesting - was your bike still under factory warranty?

  7. yes

  8. eventually my dealer grinded off bit of exhaust welding which was too close to fairing and it stopped.
but yeah, i am on my 4th r/h side lower panel

  9. I've done the same with the Dremel...hopefully that, some heat tape and a slight adjustment of the pipe will stop it from happening again - who knows?

  10. I just sorted mine today. My bike is red and it hadn't discoloured.

I trimmed the burn back with a Stanley knife - luckily you can't see it from the presentation side.

I draw filed the weld on the exhaust to stop it happening again. I then put some aluminium tape on the inside of the fairing. It should reflect the heat a bit more.

    Good luck!
