Another Newbie Saying Hi!

  1. Hi all, another newbie here.
I'm not yet a Hypermotard owner, I am just starting the hunt for a bike so that I am all sorted for next spring/summer - which is going to be a scorcher I reckon (Yeah right! :anguished:). I'm lucky enough to be the owner of a small collection of 3 bikes, one of which ('03 ZRX1200R) will be sold on to fund the purchase of my first ever Ducati.
I've always liked the "supermotard" style of bike & I find them great in traffic as well as great fun in the twisties. I have a Yamaha '89 TDR250 (not for sale) which was probably one of the first of the hooligan breed to hit the UK back in the day.
I'm probably going to be looking for a 821 model (I'm not a fan of the bar end mirrors on the earlier models) & I'm hoping that this will be a bit lighter (easier to ride) than the ZRX which I am now starting to find a bit on the heavy side, which means it often gets left at the back of the garage in favour of one of the lighter bikes.
Ok, so intro over. Let the fun commence.

    Steve. :eek:ldman:

  2. Welcome Dave

  3. Woah there - what about the LC's ??? A lot earlier than 89 and more hooligan than Corbyn's Momentum.

    Welcome by the way :upyeah:

  4. Hello and welcome into the mad house :)

  5. I see/know what you mean but I was referring to the fact that the TDR250 was one of the first "supermoto" style machines?

  6. Hi all,
I visited a Ducati dealership at the weekend & tried a few bikes. I was hugely disappointed to discover that I can barely touch the ground when seated on a 821 Hyermotard. :anguished: I though Italians' were (in general) one of the shorter nationalities? 34 inches of seat height means that I'm probably going to have to bin the idea of owning one of these.

I'm told that the earlier 796 model is a bit lower (there wasn't one in stock for me to try)? But what are the other trade-offs with the older models/engines? I don't like the bar-end style mirrors (although these can be removed/changed). One good thing is that I prefer the under-seat pipes of the older model.

I also tried a Monster - nice but not what I'm looking for.

    Steve.

  7. A friend of mine has a Hyper and has had it lowered quite a bit. I can get both my feet flat on the ground on it, and I have hobbit legs :)

  8. Interesting. Thanks......... I know that lowering links are available for some bikes but I don't want to spoil the whole "supermotard" look. I'm sure I read somewhere about a lower seat - but don't know how much lower it makes it?

I've never though of myself as short (just under 5'10") and used to ride a big old Triumph Tiger 955i.

    Steve.
