1200 DVT Dilemma: Multistrada S Vs Base Model

  1. Haha Tobers! It always amazes me how many bikes you see with next to no miles on them. Get out there and use 'em and enjoy 'em!

  2. After much debate I went for the base model. I managed to get a great deal on the base with touring pack so it was a huge saving compared to the S.

It works for me because I spend the vast majority of my riding as a solo rider.

I've had the bike 9 months and have put 8K miles on it, and have just done a trip to Spain where it was fantastic.

The base suspension has been fine, but I'm going to get it set up better for me as it is slightly too soft.

I bought the base with a view to possibly upgrading next time. The jury's still out though, to be honest.

Quick answer is: try both and choose. You won't be disappointed with either.

  3. I had an S model originally and it was a great bike but I now have the 2016 DVT and I went for the base model. Once the novelty wore off I never really fiddled with the settings on the move and find the base model just as good now I've got it set up to suit. 1400 miles in 2 months and I don't miss the electronic suspension and I don't crave the extra bling the S model would have added. The bank balance looks healthier though!

  4. I bought a Base DVT but didn't try the S before I purchased. Never once regretted not getting the S even second hand 2k plus cheaper..... That's a nice run around money for a winter bike? Not that it would be needed in India. It may make more difference if you regularly go two up with luggage and on variations of road surfaces. Couple of testers said they would buy the base them maybe spend some of the money on a terminogni and still have plenty cash left. My Base fitted with touring pack which ticks all the boxes for me.

  5. @Paul & @nkibble...thanks for making my life tough :rage::grin:
was about to book 1200 S today, now confused again.... :coldsweat:
[though, base model is readily available with the dealer]

  6. Btw, can we fit the TFT display of a 1200 S on the base model :p

  7. I do the majority of my riding with the other half on board, we tested the S & really couldn't warrant the extra cash
I do like the red stitching on the S seat though !

  8. Try them, tye only way you will know.

I have short legs, and am heavy, and find the skyhook easily pays for itself as I use it every ride.

  10. Ask all the folk who own the base model, if they would take a free upgrade to the "S" model ?? And I imagine most would upgrade ??

I personally think its worth it for the squillion watt LED headlights alone as I do shift work so ride in the dark a fair bit. The cornering lights I can take or leave, but the bigger brakes and skyhook I'm a fan of. The colour dash I can take or leave also, but as a whole, the "S" package is the one you want. If you buy the base model, and yet you had the cash for the "S" model, later on you'll kick yourself when you really start throwing the bike around, as it is then, where the skyhook comes into its own. Have fun whatever you get.

  11. Better brakes, better lights and better suspension, the S :upyeah:

  12. agreed.... But ask all s owners if could have a free upgrade to Pikes Peak model would they?lol

  13. I get where your coming from but it's not what the OP asked eh. Anyhoo, Pikes peak with boggo ohlins is a downgrade surely ?? :)

  14. No.

  15. Other than for the looks and I toyed with the idea of a vulture bike decal kit, NO, I had the choice but chose the S as I wanted the skyhook set up, I did have the belly pan and pillion pegs powder coated and I think it now looks mint as it is IMG_0718.JPG

  16. I also purchased base model over S when I purchased my new pre dvt model, I must say it is a blast. I ride solo and have never messed about with suspension setting oops that's a lie I turned the rear suspension setting about a full turn when I had my panniers on for my tour last year!
Save your cash and splash out on extras which matter I.e. Protection, exhaust and decat pipe.....

  17. I put the Arrow exhaust with decat on my base model. It looks and sounds superb! Also put the Evotech guards on it, and have the carbon screen.
Might put a HID light kit on it, but I hardly ride at night.

    Well chuffed with it.

There's some great extras on the S, but I couldn't personally justify the 4K difference.
