Tyre Life

  1. Ok I have just bought a 2009 bike, only done 1200 miles, will the tyres be ok, only reason I asked is because I braked today and the back skidded, may just be they wasn't warm enough

It's a 1100s or are they just light on the rear

  2. What age are the tyres? Not sure I'd be keen on 7 year old rubber if they are stamped 09.

  3. well thats an issue id like - my back brake is shite! fresh high temp fluid, bled properly worked for about 50 miles then back to almost non existent!

  4. Do they have a rear brake fitted then?! :grinning:

My crystal ball tells me that your current tyres are clearly shite. New tyres required.

  5. All tyres are stamped with a date of manufacture (Google it for more info).

Condition of the rubber will depend to some degree on how the bike has been stored. UV will age the rubber, so you're better off if it's been stored under cover. Your bike is low mileage for the year, could your rear tyre be "flat spotted" due to under-inflation whilst stored?

I read a couple of years ago that, in the UK, they were thinking of putting an age limit on all tyres for the MOT. I think it was somewhere around the 5 year mark?? Not heard anything recently though.
