1098 Battery Access

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by SP4S, Oct 17, 2016.

  1. Fellow members,

I have had my 1098r battery on an off trickle charge for a few months, although it was completely without charge for about a month, i tried to start the bike yesterday and again today after having it on trickle but no starting.

My question is, do i need to take battery out and charge it?

Next question is how the hell do i remove the left hand side fairing? i have removed all the fairing bolts visible, but there is one stopping it form coming off near the front underneath.

How do i get access to this nut? from the inside just be the light? It seems like a whole top fairing off job. I have not had the need to remove the fairing before and it appears to be very complicated compared to my other bikes.

    Sorry, thats two questions/problems.

    Cheers guys

  2. There is a bolt right at the front corner of the side fairing (inside, bolted up under the nose from memory).

Had the battery had it if it is not starting your bike?

No, it doesn't have to be off of the bike to charge.

  3. Thanks Jolley. How do I get access to this final bolt?

Should I do anything before disconnecting the battery?
What I meant was do I need to charge it with a proper battery charger as opposed to a trickle charger?

  4. It's just inside the front edge in front of the radiator, right at the top of the panel.

Sorry, not an expert on chargers as I never use them. I'm sure someone else will help.

  5. Yes I can see it. Can I undo it from there or from inside fairing?
Sorry it was getting dark when last looked and no lighting in garage.

  6. Yes, just unscrew it from there. From memory it is a real pain to get back in after!

  7. There two are also plastic fasteners under the nose cone. you need a flat blade screwdriver to pop out the middle peg. pig to get at, sort of either side of the front suspension as it comes out of the bottom tree.

  8. Thanks guys. Will try tomorrow
