749 Facelift Picture

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by DucRod, Oct 26, 2016.

  1. Can anyone post a pic of the facelifted body work on the 749 I know they had a swingarm change and other mods but have not seen what they did with the fairings.

  2. Google images? :)

  4. image.jpg 03-04 and 05-06 panels are all different and cant be mixed without slight gaps. The barge boards are bigger on 05-06 and dont have cut outs for the 2 'hinge' bits. The 05-06 sides dont have the 2 hinge type things. Thats the best way to tell apart by looking.
05-06 have part no on back ending in 1C. 03-04 have 1A.
The front fairing brackets(wings) are narrower on 03-04 as the nosecone is slighly narrower.

  5. easiest way to tell is the vents on the from 03-04 had 4 vents

    Whilst 05-06 had 2 vents

  6. The obvious difference to me is that the earlier bike has vertical slashes each side of the headlamps. The lower section of the slash forms the intake for the air-runners to the airbox and the upper portion vents through the fairing. The later bike lacks the upper slashes and only has the air-runner intakes, as in @900streetfighter 's pic.
The other really obvious change is red rather than silver frame.
Personally, I rather like the red frame and I'm sure the deeper sump is of benefit but the fairing changes and black swing-arm are aesthetically just different, not better.

  7. this gives you an idea with 2 together a 2004 and a 2006 DSC03043.JPG

  8. would not put to much into that the latter bike is a 999r Xerox pic to show difference on the noses and screen

  9. So who prefers what?
I like the earlier front fairing,
    but the later swingarm.

  10. same here but only cus you can use bobbins on the later swing arm.. apart from that i aint bothered

  11. Facelift for me. Apart from looks the base model has deep sump motor with 16bhp more and improved electrics. Also the wider nose probably allows better view behind from the mirrors.

  12. You can put the black SA on the older model, but i believe the exhaust needs changing, others have done it. @Kingfixer has done it.

  13. Correct I have fitted 'black box' swing arm on my '03, needed a new Termi system though to suit new swing arm, but has the '03 fairings.

  14. Me too... :upyeah:

Mine's an 05 but I like the extra vents in the earlier front end. Fits fine with the later side panels - you'd barely notice where it doesn't quite line up.

  15. I didn't see you riding the A4146 heading north from Hemel with a Panni back in May? I'd probably have been on the 999 grey Fila.

  16. Could be... that's my usual way out heading North. Got a memory like a sieve though ;-)

Been too busy this summer to get out much so the 999 is SORNed now until the spring. Can't wait...!

  17. Where are you? I'm Berko.

  18. Bovingdon me :)

Always avoid Berko with its heavy traffic and speed bumps but will have to meet up for a ride some time?

  19. makes q a bit of diff painting those little bits black :grinning:
