    Goodnight

  2. Well now I've been looking into this ethanol thingy, and here in New Zealand it seems that my local gas station has up to 10% ethanol in the fuel,a by product of the dairy industry. My 916 has a steel tank, but makes me wonder what is it doing to my engine, fuel system etc,it's only 5 cents cheaper than BP fuel, and I don't want my bike growing udders and going moooooo!!!even if it has open exhausts.would look interesting though!

  3. Are you sure that the Dairy Industry supplies Ethanol for fuel in NZ?, I thought we (I work for Fonterra) only supplied Ethanol for Spirits and Alcopops etc. I was under the impression that fuel ethanol was supplied by the Petro-chemical Industry from a plant in Taranaki.

  4. Seems that way Dave, this was from the NZ Hearld.

  6. Yes, after a bit of research I see that it is so, used by Gull in the North Island and made by us (Fonterra/Anchor) at Tirau and 2 other plants, should pay more attention at work eh.

  7. Yeah but get more power if you add 5mls of mint sauce per litre.

  8. Well you could make Ethanol from the Meatworks waste, plus Bio-Diesel from the fats/oils from the carcass as well, so yes, you could.

  9. Ah so it's not just corrugated iron they make in Tirau.

  10. Not many sheep up here in the north island Dave!
    Mostly moo cows and Hobbits.

  11. A lot less down here nowadays as well, I work at the worlds largest Dairy Factory, at Edendale here in Southland, can process over 15 million litres of milk a day, it has the 3rd biggest Milk Dryer in the world here producing up to 24 Tonnes of Milk Powder per hour, the 2 biggest Dryers are in Clandeboye and Darfield in Canterbury. NZ only consumes 3% of the Dairy product it makes, the rest is exported. So the men of Gore are finding it hard to get a date these days.

  13. @NZDave

That's one hell of a lot of milk processed in one day Dave, the machinery involved sounds interesting. Impressive numbers!

  15. The site has 4 Milk Dryers, Cheese dept. making 45 vats a day, a Milk Fat Dept. making AMF (pure milk fat with no water) for Confectionary and Hospitality, a Casein Dept. and Lactose Dept., and various other Dept. making specialty products, we don't make final products but ingredients, e.g. Cheese blocks are 20kg. I actually don't work in the Factory but in the Waste Water Treatment Plant and Irrigation Dept. we deal with 8 - 10 million litres of WW per day. The Milk Collection team have 84 Tankers and Trailers holding 25,000 litres each on the road 24hrs a day collecting milk from all over the lower 1/2 of the South Island.
