  1. Anyone have any idea what the Samsung Tablets are like or indeed what any tablets - excluding the IPAD are like? The nipper has asked for one for Christmas as he wants to play Minecraft??? We were planning on an Xbox of his own however he seems to want one of these? Just want some general feedback on whether 1) they are worth it B) hes only 9 so is he a bit young for it?? He does use the Ipod Touch but i wont let him on the Ipad yet its brand new!............!!!

  2. I only have direct experience of the iPad (which I'm using right now and I love) but I have friends that have other tablets and all of them rate them quite highly. I'm not sure how they perform for gaming as they all use them for work (as I do mine sometimes)

  3. Funny enough I got my Misses a Samsung Galaxy Tab2 yesterday(great deals at Tesco!), it's a superb bit of kit. I've used iPads and Iphones for years and to be honest I won't go back after changing to a Galaxy III phone and using the tablet. I've got an iPod which is fine, but I don't like the limited software you can use with Apple. Android has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years, Apple IMHO still justify their high prices on being trendy!

  4. Pixie check Microsoft Surface.

  5. "Only 9" - a bit young?
A friend was telling me about her 4 1/2 year old grandson who was showing her how to use her new tablet gadget the other day!

  6. 2yr olds can use these things.

Surface is massively underwhelming so far. It could come good but needs Apps. Also, depending on price, the Pro sounds more useful, especially if schoolwork is a consideration & they'll want to use Office.

  7. Well it is new, but give it time. Basic RT surface has full office included. Pro is in essence a laptop with normal desktop os. Win 8 interface is so easy to use and so smooth even on my old iconic tab. In regards off apps any apps made for Windows Phone 7.5 can be converted easily by owner to run on win 8. Any apps made for Windows phone 7.8 or 8 are ready to run on win 8 if owner wants to. Core of phone and desktop os are the same.

  8. Nowhere had them in the uk when I tried to get the bairn one, it's order from Microsoft or get stung for 500 quid from flea bay......and we don't get the keyboard/cover the Americans get included :frown:

All the write ups I've read slagged the lack of apps too....but they will turn up eventually.

  9. The Nexus range and the Samsung tabs seem to be leading the field at the moment for non iPad devices. They both have a range of different sizes and are well specced at good prices. I would be spending my money on a Nexus 7 if I needed a new tab.

  10. Indeed, the apps will come. Try doing anything meaningful on the 'full' office, Excel for example, I have and it's not up to it.

  11. My ipad deals with all the excel and word stuff that I can throw at it. No probs at all.

  12. What do you mean, for office tasks office is good. Do you mean the full office in RT is not full?

I been doing scripts in excel and it handled them quite well, including importing external data in to excel scripts.

  13. I have win 8 on my tablet and all is perfect. Battery life went up by about 20 - 25% over win 7

  14. Just get some iBallz (google them) for it, he'll be fine

  15. Me too, but then I mostly use Citrix to run genuine MS Office.

Out of interest, what are you using, Office Web Apps or something else?

  16. I'm just saying I couldn't get hold of the Surface tablet from anywhere other than ordering from Microsoft or flea bay when I tried to get one for the bairn, that's all.

I can't be arse with the whole win 7-8 v iOS v android thing AGAIN.

I never mentioned battery life or how good or bad windows is....I wouldn't dare would I.......

  17. Do not care either with you just stating fact. I doubt it is better then A devices but still better then older OS which is handy to know.

Currently you can only buy Win8 RT devices which are the cheaper versions.

  18. Just the apple apps (pages, numbers, keynote) and they are ok.

  19. That's what I tried to get and at the time they were only available by ordering direct from Microsoft or by getting lashed on flea bay....

I'm sure I said that once already.....

But I'm sure your right AGAIN every shop in your high street will have them stacked high!

  20. Nexus 7 is a great tab. Some bargains to be had on generic Chinese tabs if you do your research and don't mind reflashing.
