New Ducati Owner

  1. Hi all,

On Saturday I will be collecting my first Ducati.... a 2008 848!

As excited as I am, the 1st thing I would like to do is get it serviced (the previous owner hasnt used it in a year due to a hip injury). I'm wondering what everyones recomendations are for where and what I get done. The bike currently has 10.5k miles on the clock so I'm assuming it will need belts, cams and engine oil? Would it also be worth getting the brake and fork oil replaced?

I'll be spending the majority of my savings on the bike so I dont want to go over the top if I dont need to.

Any help/advice would be great. I'm based in Motherwell (just outside Glasgow)

    Regards
    Lee

  2. Belts: You need to know when they were changed. If they where.
Cams: No. But if you are going to change belts you can check that.

    Engine Oils = Must.

    Brake´s and clutch = Must
    Fork = Yes.

  3. Thread moved and welcome Dave

  4. Thanks mate, the belts were done 3 years ago at 6k miles. I'm on a tight budget so may hold off on the cams if its not a must do.

  5. If you have tight budget, do the belts (www.exactUK.com), engine, brake and clutch oils.
You can do the forks and the cams later.

  11. hi,, John McPhee , motogp3 racer from Glasgow / Oban area ,, v good, esp in the rain ( no surprise there coming from Scot. west coast )

  12. First thing I would do is get a factory service manual and read it, then change the oil, inspect the belts for obvious signs of problems, fraying, unusual/uneven colouring and make my decision from there,it's always wise to do everything yourself on a new purchase then you " know it's done right" the modern belts are very strong and reliable and I've heard that belts in general can "take a set" when left unused for longer periods(I've never had a problem with a year,in 30+yrs!) ,there's a lot of fear and big bills talked about with these motors,BUT if your reasonably skilled and have the tools they are a simple machine to work at,get the tool of evil bay that holds the cams static when you finally do the belts and always check/replace the idler bearings that the belts run on

  13. apparently just announced full season nxt yr with new team..

  14. Hi all,
I decided to go with Ducati Glasgow and went for the full works bar the valve adjustments.
I got the engine oil, clutch oil, brake fluid, fork oils, belts and steering bearings all replaced for a very reasonable price. They are even delivering the bike to my home at no extra cost so 10/10 for customer service!
