Different cancer I know but I've just had my last three monthly blood test for seven years since my operation, I'm feeling a little nervous now I will no longer be monitored. Hope everything continues to be positive Pete, Al get it checked out. Steve
Best wishes to everyone who has or has had this dreadful illness, I've just finished 37 days of radiotherapy for prostate cancer and am now waiting for a follow up appointment to see if it and the hormone therapy have done their job. Anxious times
Blimey - good luck to all those above (Steve/Pete/Al/Pico). on the downside, I heard that the NHS is scrapping plans for mass PSA screening for men, quoting over-diagnosis as the main reason (but cost-saving is the more likely reason). Experts scrap prostate screening proposal - BBC News The PSA test | Prostate Cancer UK Pete
I posted on here a few weeks ago that I had just finished radiotherapy for prostate cancer and was waiting anxiously for my follow up appointment. I had this the other day and was told I was free from cancer, I'm still having some problems with nasty side effects, needed a blood transfusion on Friday but have been told everything is fixable. So to any other guys who are in or may needing treatment go for it think positive and hopefully results will go your way too
Thank you Pete 1950, the blood transfusion has mad a difference, next thing is to have a camera up inside to see just what the damage is and what's best to do about it.
When the surgeons cut you about internally with scalpels, they always stitch the parts back together afterwards. The sutures keep stuff together pending regrowth. In the case of radiation therapy however they just seem to assume the damaged parts will heal up somehow without stitching and will grow back together. Let's hope that is the way it works out for you.
Pete, Steve, Al, Pico - just catching up with threads after a bit of an absence from the forum, and saw this thread. Best of luck to you all. I'm another cancer survivor (3 years in the clear, so now annual checkups, next one in January). In fact, I bought my 996 just after the chemo as a little celebration of life! I had chemo rather than radiotherapy for my cancer, after surgery, and so I know the treatments knock you for six. It took me 18 months to get back to anywhere near normal energy levels and fitness. I started back at kung fu training about 6 months after the chemo finished, and had zero stamina and the lung capacity of a smoker's. I had to sleep the rest of the day after the saturday morning sessions! Now I'm back to 3 times a week, 2-3 hours training each session. Hair is still thin, so I've stuck with the grade 1 skinhead look ever since ;-) Are you looking at nutrition as part of your recovery? My oncologist rubbished anything to do with supplementation and nutrition, but I ignored him. Being half Chinese, my uncle in Hong Kong (also a cancer survivor) researched the best supplements in China and sent me a top brand of Chinese mushroom pills to boost the immune system. PM me if you want the details, there is a lot of research in Asia of using such treatments alongside chemo, and in China and Japan they use it routinely alongside 'western' treatments. I went vegan for 18 months after chemo which helped boost my energy levels. Since then I've adopted a ketogenic diet, which researchers in USA say can really help alongside chemo as well (I didn't know about it unfortunately until after the chemo). The keto diet boosts immmune function, as well as the body's repair systems, and has increased my energy to late 20s levels (I'm 47). Again, if you want any info I'm happy to oblige, just PM me and I will explain via email and send you research references and links to pursue. Best of luck.
Thanks for this post @Outliar . Does your ketogenic diet involve eggnog? If this is beneficial, I might get some Advocaat and drink it over Xmas. Cheers!
Ha ha, eggs are good but sugar and carbs are out! Enjoy your christmas Pete, hope you are doing well.
I don't visit here often so missed this thread. Hope all's well Pete, we must catch up sometime. Nick.
