1199 Quick Shifter Problem

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by PCRR, Nov 15, 2016.

  1. Hello all,

Just bought a 2013 1199. Only rode it 3 times. Tried quick shifter each time on bike. 1st 2 times felt really smooth. Just been on bike tonight and it would not work. Before I take it back to dealer is there anything I can check??

  2. I've had this with mine and finally gave up and fitted a bsd kit, Moto rapido looked at it a couple of times and cleaned and adjusted the linkage but it soon came back

I was told by someone at a Ducati event to have the latest version fitted and it would be sorted but when I asked at the dealers they said there is only one version??

  3.
  4. Is there anything I can do or check or does it need to go back to dealer? It worked very well on 2 out of 3 occasions.

  5. Mine works best at high revs under good acceleration loads. Never been great at low revs or just plodding along. But I guess it's at the high end of things where it's needed most rather than casual changes at low speeds.

  6. some have issues, mines a dry weather only bike, and has been faultless.
just make sure you havent turned it off in the settings, its quite easy to do it!

  7. They're not really designed to work at lower revs

But try cleaning the mech and lubing it up

Could also be chain adjustment, mine was stacks better after adjusting the chain

  8. Thanks for all reply's. I have put some 3 in 1 oil where the thin tube goes into thicker part if that's right? Weather permitting will give it another try later in the week.

  9. Make sure you get the bearings In the linkage

  10. You need to be doing at least 7k revs for it to engage - that's how its designed.

  11. mines good from 3k!

  12. It probably is but its not really designed and why would you? Clutchless shift is perfect for lazy riding. QS is for balls-out high load acceleration.

OP - maybe look at lever position too, as they can be sensitive and if a new bike you may need to adjust stuff a little

  13. Mine has failed twice on the 1299 which I think is the same part. On the third time (still under warranty) the part number has changed so it is probable there is an issue with the original type and Ducati has superceeded it with a better version.

  14. err, cos its good?

  15. New quick shifter ordered by dealer.
Just need to wait for it to be delivered and for it not to be raining so I can take it in to be fitted.
    Come on Sun.

  16. I guess your dealer has done any updates but I felt like the timings changed sometime in 2015 to slow it down so it works better at low revs. As Bradders says it's not the way they are supposed to be used; even though they often work.

I've just had the QS replaced on my new R and my S sometimes plays up.

  17. I've had mine play up a few times on me. What you can try before is cleaning up the linkage, push the gear selector up and you will see the push rod move up, just dump a load of WD40 on there and get it moving to lube it all up. Worked for me and i make sure i do it as one of regular checks when lubing chain up etc.

  18. As mentioned they're not designed to be used at lower revs

  19. thanks for advise.

I will let dealer replace with a new one then as suggested lubricate as often as chain.

  20. Like said above, you'd want to avoid trying to use it at lower RPM or much less than a full throttle
The QS works by cutting the engine momentarily to allow you to slot gears by matching revs. This is designed to work at higher RPM under load, so if you're using it on a partial throttle at lower RPM, it won't be matching revs at all, and crunching your gears on engagement. It might just seem to be a but jumpy when you're doing it, but you'll be wearing the gearbox no end and it could fail
I've no idea if Ducati could check the ECU logs to see if you've not been using it 'properly' but I'd hate to see the cost of a new gearbox should they void any warranty
