  4. Well 350 km done already, and I feel that the change was a good move as the 1299 feels such a leap in technology from the 999.

But even with the standard exhaust it's very loud..! Can't wait to get the akrapovic system fitted at the 1000km service

  5. Be great to hear what you think of the two bikes relative to each other. Was/is your 999 fairly standard?

  6. I was lucky to have had 2 999r's and had the big exhaust and filters with a ecu reflash, and suspension wise dymag carbon wheels. This made the bike punchy, and very flickable. Jumping on the 1299s is like a jump in development. The higher tire profile makes a huge difference to bikes turn in and change of direction, and the motor has the midrange that was missing when the 999 was compared to the 1098.
Very impressed as a package, and the seating and bars are much better than the 999

  9. So next lesson learned... fairing removal.. OMG what a pain

  10. I found it much easier that the old 848/1098 style with its strange rubber grommet nuts that never wanted to start.

  11. I guess I'm spoilt as I have a 996 and the fairings are off in a matter of seconds

  12. your 999 looks amazing, would have broke my heart to sell something like that,,,, maybe would have for a nice Panni tho..

  13. Thanks 2 easy, sadly i have sold it on as 3 bikes would have meant one in the bedroom as well ( as the wife would have left..!) but I enjoyed the time I had it, but am glad it's gone. Sometimes I think the r bike are great, but can sometimes be too focused, and also with the 999 as I rode it, the thought of it falling over on the carbon panels gave me sleepless nights..!

  14. Good read! Awesome looking bike. I'm thinking of selling my 999S and multistrada and getting the 1299S. Just a bit concerned about being too tall for it as I'm 6'3". The 999 is long from seat to bars which I find a good fit. You look tall, does it feel cramped at all?

  15. Find a demonstrator and take a test ride. It's the only way to know for sure whether a 1299 fits for you.

  16. Yeah I will when the weather perks up. as good a bike as is reported to be not sure it'll need be that good in the sleet and ice. just wanted to hear any plus 6 footers experience of living with a panigale.

  17. I found the 999 very long in the seat, and it effected the ability for me to support the acceleration and braking effect, the 996 I have is perfect in this issue and the 1299 is a lot better as well.
I'm 1,80 ish but the 1299 is a roomy bike and the addition of the race seat gives about 2cm to the seat to peg height which might help those in the larger leg bracket.

  18. Those inches from the race seat make a big difference. I'm 5'11" and it made me feel like I'm on top of the bike rather than in the middle of it.

  19. Yep and to be honest it makes a huge difference to the feel of the bike, I only rode 50km with mine fitted before the weather turned a week or so ago

  20. so after a brave last ride before I left for work again, I managed to put 500km on the new bike, and due to the cold weather the last 50 km was in Wet mode, which was a strange feeling as I could feel the bike really holding back ( as It is programed to do) almost felt like my old 250LC before it warmed up... but that is a few years ago now..

what is everyone doing when transporting a 1299? as strapping the bike down seems to be a real afterthought.
I have one of the front wheel stands that hols the front wheel firm and bike upright but these can be a real mare if you have slicks or hot tires when you put the bike in, as the bike is really hard to get out. as I found with the 996 after a track day recently.

any tips on the best strapping points?
