I have to say, this is the speak of the losers. If the vote had gone to remain then you would be happy to let a handful of people deciding Britain's future in Europe as they have for the last 40 years. The tories were voted in and with a majority, part of their mandate was the vote, the vote out won. even those moaning took part in that vote hoping to win. Surely if they felt the vote was not binding and did not agree to it the best protest would have been not to take part themselves? Surely they would have objected to the vote BEFORE they themselves votes? They took part with the full hope they would win but then started bleating like sheep that it wasn't binding, you can't make me do it, mum mum democracy is unfair mum. My own hope is that the court backs the government, it is launched, they go in to negotiations and then they present the end deal for consideration to the house and the people for signing off. Why would I hope for this? Because this is what the other side, the EU, is doing for their citizens and governments.
And what if the house then throws the deal out? What happens then? Whilst the pound plummets further?
If the deal is thrown out then god help the mp's who vote against it just before an election is due. It would Fin, be a delicious irony if this is then pushed to the European court as the current where the buck stops legally. Personally I suspect the European court will try and do everything possible to avoid this and the U.K.'s Highest court I suspect will do the same. As to the pound plummeting, it always has gone down and has always gone up, often having very little to do with politics of the U.K. I think even the biggest whingers know that much of these court and political protests are little more than after the effect political grandstanding, opportunism and cock measuring. No problem with this as it is part of our democracy but little more than political grandstanding, opportunism and cock measuring it is.
i call it pre negotiation. left the right run riot with out letting them know what our thoughts are? no thanks.
more fudge , more muddying of the waters , more twisting and squirming , more lies until the whole thing can credibly be ditched,, maybe two years of fudge .
I do think the UK will leave but I suspect the terms will be a complete fudge as the Brexit side can demand all they want but if it means the U.K. Economy is unviable as a result then the Treasury cannot cave in to those demands. May already appears to be moving towards a temporary agreement to avoid such a disaster.
Can't see her resigning and if a general election was called what then? Jeremy Corbyn isn't the man, he's a nice bloke and I feel he actually means well but he is unlikely to get the backing. So what then, limp wristed lib dems who have zero back bone? I can't think of anything worse. This is the problem. A decision was made by the majority of British people (collectively) Somebody's job is to make that work, not wriggle out of it, just get on and make it work. Elections wouldn't change that
She would have no other option as her position would be untenable as she didn't have a Parliamentary majority that shared her view. Her only way of getting that would be to try via a general election.
she would end up with an even bigger majority,i dont think there will be an eu to leave shortly, italian election results then the french ones will decide
What a load of old tosh if's and maybe's and starlight glitter on moonbeams flashing by a unicorn whilst riding Arthur Scargill dressed in a kkk nightshirt She already has a parliamentry majority on article 50. one within her own party and the majority government and two, even with comedy corbyn and most labour mp's saying they will not block article 50. None of the other parties want a new election. Labour know they could be wiped out to a small and pointless party at the next election and the snp know if the tories get back in which is more than likely, then she cannot go for a second independence vote because leaving the EU would have gotten a new mandate to go and that will be seen as it, Sturgeon would have cried wold one too many times so she will be stuffed. As to the lib dems, they only have 8 stoners at the moment and they face being wiped out politically. They know they are doing nothing other than posturing between now and when negotiations are started and in the old term, they are making moany hay while the sun shines, but all they will make is basket cases.
A PM who loses a major vote in Parliament is usually a dead man ( or woman in this case) walking. On a vote of this importance she would be finished if she lost. The Tories only have a slender majority now. Much depends on how many MPs follow the party whip.
Negotiating a deal which a majority in the Westminster parliament will approve, difficult though that may be, is the least of Mrs May's worries. Any deal also has to achieve majority approval of 27 other governments, 27 other national parliaments, and the European Parliament. Given the democratic nature of all these bodies, it necessarily takes several years of sustained hard work to achieve agreement at that level on anything at all. There would not be a hope in hell of this being completed in two years, even if the British government had a clear idea of what it was trying to achieve. Since it evidently hasn't a clue where to start, it is obvious that there isn't going to be an agreement in two years. So understandably government policy is to delay events for as long as possible whilst announcing that it is determined to hurry them along. Hence the current objective, which is to arrange affairs so that somebody else can be blamed for delays - the judges, the opposition, the media, the Scots, anybody really - instead of the government.
We are leaving with no terms - the terms will come, we are leaving (with no terms) where have you been? Or have you not been listening....
To leave with no terms agreed at all would be suicidal and probably would not get Parliamentary approval.
