N E C Birmingham Show - 19-27 November 2017

  1. I was intending to go but have to say that after EICMA it really pales into insignificance. Not that it's ever going to be able to compete, but with cheap flights, transfers and hotels in abundance at that time of year in Italy, you might want to consider it next year as you need at least two days to look around it all, since it's a mahoosive show.

  2. We gave Milan a miss this year but (as you know as we have met up before) we do usually end up there.... :grinning:

  3. Yes I remember, that was at the Panigale's launch in 2012 wasn't it? It's an awesome show and I struggled to see everything in two days let alone one. Will definitely be there next year, as it's perhaps Ducati's first opportunity to showcase it's replacement for 2018.

  4. Yeah I think it was, when Checa was there sat on the Panigale.....

We will certainly be going again just could not quite make it this year unfortunately.

  5. Seems there are some that go mostly for the content. We go for the beer, the bikes and deals are secondary [emoji106][emoji856][emoji481]

  6. I went last Saturday - most striking observation is how far away from the zeitgeist the Japanese manufacturers are (with Yamaha as a possible exception).

Ducati, BMW, triumph and Moto Guzzi all pushing pretty impressive ranges.

  7. My thoughts exactly. I thought Suzuki looked quite cheap along with Kawasaki and Honda in comparison to the others.....

  8. I'm not going but my buddy is working there and got to sit on he RCV as he is mates with someone! He said it was still just something u can't stop looking at and he also said the new Fireblade feels tiny, Like a 600cbr, that said it can't feel tinier than a panigale. The things are minute!

  9. Good point. I mean, who would be seen dead buying a bike which is far away from the zeitgeist?

  10. LOL.......not me, that's for sure. Suzuki range was dire.

There is enormous change running through the motorcycle (and auto) industries at the moment - massive swing away from plastic pocket rockets to bikes that are more basic/fun/characterfull/individual/less threatening to licenses etc. The Europeans seem to have got this (BMW and Triumph in particular) and the Japanese don't.

Fast and mediocre no longer sells!

  11. I was the big 4 2 yesterday so am dragging the whole family round this today as a birthday treat. [emoji3]

Do you have to print the tickets or can you get away with just presenting them on your phone? They do say bring a hard copy but seems daft in this electronic age.

  13. Thanks mate.
Is there things of interest for women and children with no interest in motorbikes?
Me and the boy will be ok, just the two fairer species may not be.

  14. 2 mins on each of the Jap stands..the 80's stuff is worth a look though and the Suzuki race bikes.

Triumph seemed to be getting the biggest crowds and their one off builds are something different..have to say they're bang on trend at the moment with their bobber and cafe racers..

Got 20% off levers on the Calsport stand.

  15. We enjoyed it, the kids loved getting on what felt like each and every bike and having their pictures taken.

I have to admit as someone who the Panigale does nothing for, i found the Ducati stand a bit disappointing. The only real surprise was I thought the white Supersport looked better in the flesh than in pictures. The red one looked bloody awful though. Same as the 959, I couldn't look at it for fear of bringing up a bit of sick.
I jest, but it's just not for me.

Is it me or is the red now used much darker than on previous bikes?

Like the Aprilia's, didn't care much for the Superduke R either, yet loved the previous version.
Maybe it's just my tastes are changing as I'm getting older and need to open my eyes a bit...
