My insurance is due so I thought I'd have a look on-line using one of the comparison sites, most quotes came back at around £100, just for my snotty ST2. I've had good service from Carole Nash so I gave them a call. They quoted £175. I then said I had got an on-line quote for much less, so the helpful lady looked it up and said 'Yes you did, and yes it's the same policy, with the same benefits, same XS etc, etc, and yes it's £60 cheaper!' So how does that work! Still, get a quote from both places and see what happens!
Well online you can heat the keyboard, real person you can smack them in face. Price is just a lottery thing as you seen it.
Last time I spoke to the broker, they were able to relay my requests straight to the insurer on the other line and I got a pretty good deal......for living in London
I've renewed through Carole Nash for the last few years by checking the price online against the renewal, always less, last time it was £100 cheaper. Ring up and renew existing policy for the lower price. Do the same with my car insurance as well. But, interestingly tried it this year with the house and contents which is through M&S. Complete opposite, as a new policy it was about £110 more expensive. Also did a comparison check and I couldn't get anywhere near the renewal price. Also, has anyone played around with the security questions, such as is immobiliser, alarm fitted? other security measures taken such as chains etc? I said no to them all this year, the difference in price was about £15 and by saying no there is no arguement about whether the alarm was set, chain used etc when some scrot has made off with it. Did the same a couple of years ago to the house insurance regarding window locks, burgler alarm etc and next to no difference. doing this was triggered by a friend of my husbands who's having an arguement with his insurer's about declared window locks not being used when he was burgled.
I know they aren't popular, but I've had no issues with Bennetts. With them being able to add the CBR to the Ducatis' policy for just £25 I don't see anything persuading me to shop around unless my premium goes mental at renewal time. With a decent postcode area, a garage, a 17 year old full license and a history cleaner than a nuns thoughts (and an advanced certificate) , I don't see that being overly likely.
I went with Bennetts they occasionally do a half price cover for the extras like leather cover/breakdown No problems claiming either. I use a broker for my car as insurance is much cheaper through them. Building/contents through Internet as broker can't compete Swings and roundabouts
For the first time in years my renewal was cheaper than last years', normally I have to haggle and spend hours getting other quotes to keep the price sensible. This is with E-bikes, and checking online, no-one else came close price-wise. Dunno what they'd be like in the event of a claim, but I hope not to find out. As has been said before, I never claim for security, alarms, etc cos it makes very little difference to the price. And disclosing modifications doesn't really make that much of a difference, but going for cover on helmets and clothing can make quite a bit of difference - although in the event of a claim they're insured seperately to the bike in most cases, and shouldn't affect your ncd.
Renewal came through at £146, checked on line through a comp site, same company came up at £ 132 so I rang up and told them I could get it cheaper and they said they couldn't match and I should renew through the comp site which I did , only this time it came up at £129 and then I got a further discount of 8% by going through Top Cashback. Another anomaly I came across when I was insuring my daughters car (after her first full year driving). With Admiral the Fully Comp option was actually cheaper than TTFT, I even rang them to check! They said that someone with fully comp often takes more care of their car as it's in better condition and is less likely to claim, everything else on the quote was the same...
