2017 Ducati Average 4.8% Price Increase

  1. Yawn

The pound has been steadily rising against the ¥ for years. All that has happened is that sterling is now trading somewhere near it's true value and similar to what it was in 2012. Such was the strength of the pound against the ¥, that when I last went to Japan in 2014, I had so much left over from my food allowance that I bought a new Arai RX7 GP with it (which by the way was about £330 there due to the unnaturally over inflated £). :)

Why don't you stop living in your perfect little world of self delusion. :Hilarious:

  2. The brexit/ drop in the pound is an excuse that is inexcusable. Why? their argument is the pound has dropped so the price needs to go up, at first sight you would say, that sounds fair.

Until you then realise when the pound was going and kept going up, they never once dropped their prices .

I suspect with the huge billions of dollars in fines for the volkswagen group they are chancing their arm across the range as well as the 30,000 job losses world wide they announced. I believe this is known in the trade as "spreading the load"

The help pages in this very forum show they continually release bikes that have faults and have been doing so for decades and now they want you as a new bike owner, to pay even more for the privilege?

  3. Yep, the first thing that gets squeezed when budgets are tight is that final cycle of big testing. It's inevitable and happens in every industry except critical ones like nuclear etc etc. I guess we all need to make a decision whether we want to stick with Ducati for the next one or walk away.

Look at MV, rumour is there's are going up 12% partly because of there issues, but I had a new dealer open nearby 8 months ago, and they never have stock and rumour is they are ditching the franchise because they can't get any bikes to sell, and the back up is shocking, back to the old days of Aprilia etc where u waited 6 weeks for parts... I know many have had good experience with MV and they aren't 'crap' but just trying to say that there are others out there who aren't doing well.

Aprilia for example... everyone raves about the RSV4 but no one is buying them, why not?

  4. Because they still have a rep for fragility and parts can take months still

  5. I suspected but didn't want to say as I don't know for sure, it's a shame. I would say Aprilia are my fav brand, I cut my teeth on an RS125 and they were the best days

  7. That's not my experience at all
Ktm residual drop is biblical , lost a fortune on my 1190 and 1290SE are cheap as chips at the moment
Heard a few 1290 adv horror stories too
Will never buy a new ktm again , and I like the new 1290R , looks great

  8. I've just picked up a 1290 SD SE with the little edition of the full akrapovic (unnecessary but of so worth it)

The bike itself is a batch sold to the UK prior to the 2017 release, at the price I paid I'd say that it was , and is a bargain. They were sent here to sell, and they have at that price.

They didn't 'lose value', they were rounded up from European stocks to move on quickly and that's what's happened.

Plenty have gone back overseas because the UK prices were better, two went to Holland last week because of the bargain they were from the dealer I dealt with.

Personally I don't like the new 2017 dash as it looks pants (personal opinion obviously) and I'm not overly sure on the cosmetic updates on the new bike. The remaining upgrade is a quick shifter which isn't exactly something I can't add should I see fit, it's still going to be a great bike but the 1290 is already a great bike so they'd have to try hard to bugger it up.

Admittedly I wouldn't have paid the original list price of £15k+ for the SE, but that's more than what I'd like to pay for a naked bike.

However the quality of the paint alone and finish of pretty basic parts such as foot pegs and gear / brake pedals is far and away better than what Ducati is churning out in modern times

Maybe not on the £20k plus bikes Ducati offer, but I wouldn't be surprised if it still gave them a run for their money on actual Ducati manufactured parts (not Ohlins / Brembos bolt ons)

As for biblical drops on KTM's I'm not so sure that's accurate nowadays.

Might be on some adventure models, I presume your 1190 was an adventure?

Basic 1290 Superdukes have held their prices pretty well since launch and if you look at older models like the 990 smr and 990 smt they hold value far better than the Ducati multistrada 1200's.

Sounds odd but it's true and you'd be hard pushed to find one low mileage (less than 10,000) for much less than £7k, they were only £8-9k new.

The percentage drop on the Ducati Multistrada with anything over 'Sunday mileage' is biblical.

Gone are the days of Ducati residual gaurantees, that had something to do with rarity.

Ducatis aren't rare, there's loads and loads available after pcp deals have finished.

All you're doing is lining up yet another Panigale or multistrada alongside another and another.

  9. Seen a vid of the concept KTM 790? something of other, sorry can't remember. Got a single pipe under the seat. Class looking thing, euro 4 will kill the pipe though, but aftermarket will sort that out. Got to admit, KTM are building nice looking bikes, they just look so different in their design.
44teeth done a vid of the recent bike show. Worth a watch

  10. Delighted with my 1290 9000 miles in. Best bike I've ever owned and worth every penny - standard big orange bastard bought for £12K.

I think you'd have to be bowled over by the looks of the 2017 SDR to pass up the discount offers on the outgoing model. The real differences at list price are the styling, the dash and some engine refinements brought over from the GT which smooth out some of the rawness (which I quite like - that's KTMs) and add about 3 bhp but only at 10,000 rpm. As far as I can tell the other goodies, including the uprated programmable electronics electronics are extras.

Personally I prefer the look of the current one. And I prefer orange. But you try getting the spec of the SE at under 12K from other manufacturers. They'll either be on that money or above because you'd have to raid the accessories catalogue to get the bling.

S/H 1190 Adv prices are holding up against those of the 1200 GS of comparable age and mileage. I know because I've been keeping a keen eye on the S/H market for both bikes in case my SMT sells. If your have an adventure bike that matches the residuals of a 1200 GS there's not much more you can ask for in this sector really. Admittedly the big discount KTM are offering on the last of the '16 bikes is hitting S/H prices, but so what? If you're buying new at that level of discount KTM are taking the first two years of depreciation for you so you can't lose.

On the 1290 SDR, there is one other matter to consider. The engine. It goes like holy shit. There's nothing remotely like this thing and won't be unless Ducati make a full fat naked version of the 1299 Pani. But if they did I'd eat my hat if they didn't punt it out at 18K and I agree with Damodici, the finish of the KTM is better (if you ignore the "Ready to Race" stickers pealing off the sub frame, but I can live with that).

I have to say KTM back-up is better than Ducati's and servicing and spares costs bear no comparison.

I love my Streetfighter but Ducati need to pull their finger out. KTM are constantly raising the bar and and competitors who dismiss them as brash overgrown motorcross manufacturers who have got a bit above themselves do so at their peril.
And though they don't appeal to me, a shout should go out to Yamaha. Their naked range is phenomenal value for money and the quality and performance is right up there. And they don't seem to be troubled by the fall in the Pound..
Prices, Ducati. Prices... Have a word with yourselves.

  11. I'm a short arse and commute, so not sure the Super Duke or the big orange bastards would suit me nor a 1290 engine and associated running costs.

  12. Maybe you have better dealers than where I live
I would say that I have better experience with my local Ducati dealer than My not so local ktm dealer
I have always loved ktm's had a few 990 superdukes over the years and will be considering getting a 1290 in a year or so , the QS on the older bike isn't that simple by the way
Allegedly it's the valve train design , cylinder head ignition and electronics , the earlier bikes were popping shims and you will kiss your warranty good bye if you fit one

It was an 1190 adv I bought bike did 8k miles in11 months and I lost 4K which pissed me off , though I guess that's par for the course on a lot of manufacturers

I can only talk from my own personal experience and I haven't lost that sort of cash on my last few Ducatis , though admittedly it has been for newer Ducatis

I am currently looking for a classic 990R with low mileage which would be the perfect Sunday blast bike for me

  13. The 1290 is cheaper to run than my Streetfighter. 9000 mile service intervals. Way cheaper on labour and parts and averages 39 mpg.
Can't help with the short arse-ness. Sorry.

  14. I made my 6th call to my local (90 mins away) KTM dealer today, as I am interested in buying either a new Superduke R or the SE at discount. Not one of the people I spoke to seemed remotely interested in talking to me, fobbed off with more shite (we will call you back). If I owned that dealership every single one of the fuckers would be out of a job for costing me £12k.

About Ducati prices. I wouldn't pay that now. I love my 1299 but I'm growing tired of it's fragility. I'd like to keep it as long as I can get a warranty for it. If I can't I'll have to move it on. Currently having discussions about what warranty I can actually get when mine runs out in Dec 17 (apparently a used option is coming, separate to Ever Red, which my 1299 was registered 10 days too early for the grace period). This price rise maybe it's to help with the cost of warranty claims for new bikes registering for Ever Red.

Price rise would irk people less if it was accompanied with all our bikes are covered by warranty for 4 years as standard now.

  15. I'm just a hard grafting working class guy who loves his bikes , I don't pretend to understand the workings of Brexit, the stock market ,£, yen ,dollars exchange rates ... but I do know that as much a I love the Ducati as a bike and family of riders ....adding 4.8% to my possible next machine may force me to look else where to get my thrills ...as I'm damn sure they wont be adding 4.8 % to the residual value of my current Monster ...

  16. I'm not sure about 4.8% on a Ducati but my missus has been to 4 supermarkets so far and no Worcestershire Sauce on the shelves, not good enough, what will I out on my cheese on toast!

  17. Worcestershire sauce should not be put on cheese on toast.

  18. sorry, wrong, it should and is one of the best uses for it. That and a large splash in chilli

  19. On a previous thread discussing a burglary at my home you offered to stay at my house with a shotgun for £62k a year. In response to a question from me you then posted that you can cook as well as guard houses. I was about to take you up on your kind offer but I`m having doubts now with your blatantly incorrect post about Worcestershire sauce and I suspect that you Sir are that chef that was kicked off Masterchef, The Professionals the other night. The one who did not know what taramasalata was let alone how to make it. Charlatan !
