Car Drivers

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by wyster4, Nov 18, 2012.

  1. Just out enjoying the sunshine and getting another ride in before its to cold and wet, trying to run my pani in before the winter put away.
Anyway just realised how much car drivers look down on bikers, I was coming round a roundabout doing about 10 mph and hit some diesel, front end gave way and bike on its side me not far behind it, Not much damage but enough to annoy me, not one car driver stopped just carried on with the odd one that slowed down to watch me pick up my bike, There was some teenagers that were more helpful infact they helped me pick it back up.
So conclusion what a bunch of knobs.
    Rant over, :)

Now anyone got an engine cover or break lever for sale.

    Matt

  2. Sorry to hear that, especially as you were planning to lay it up soon. Anyway so long as you are ok first and foremost ,thats the main thing.

  3. Oh pants !!
    Glad your relatively ok
In the two hours I had broken down not one car driver stopped for me
The only one that did was a work colleague luckily and a Ducati oh and the owner of the house I was outside who himself was a biker :-/

  4. Yeah fine thanks only a slow one and just cosmetic bits so was not that bad, no breaks or bruises so can count that as a bonus

  5. Ducbird, I think from now on when I see a car driver broken down or needs a push I'm going to ride on drive on by, no more mr nice guy to them.

  6. :) it's tempting to do that
But I would still stop that way drivers may in time be glad to see a biker when no one else stops by

  7. Think your right, don't want to be same light as I see the ones that drove past me

  8. Exactly :)

  9. As long as you're ok that's all that matters.

  10. Glad you're ok and the bike isn't too damaged.

Drivers can be wankers. I once dropped my bike at a traffic light when it had just gone green. Was trying to pick it up and I had a driver behind me honking at me 'cos he was going to miss the light. How helpful.

  11. glad your ok

when I had a car pull out in front of me four car drivers stopped, all gave me their names and address and said the car driver was at fault - two of them offered to stay until help turned up

one of them rescued my satnav that had skidded off down the road and another recovered my broken mirror

so the complete opposite - however when my front wheel fell off my Alfa all I got was a wave from two blokes in a white van:rolleyes:

  12. Yep, wankers :frown: when I see a broken down car, I stop to see if they are okay. Every little helps. Sorry you dropped the bike dude, that sucks. I was going to take my 1098 out, but noticed that road salt had been put down when I went to the gym first thing :frown:

  13. Sorry to hear of your mishap, glad it's minor damage and that you're ok.

  14. that sucks the fat one.
were all car drivers, but riding bikes gives you a different perspective..most car drivers are totally ignorant of bikers..weve all got stories to tell of car drivers swerving out on us, or pulling to the side of the lane when trying to filter in an attempt to 'cut us off at the pass'...
sadly, these days, im finding more and more bikers becoming more ignorant..fewer stop or offer help when a fellow is in trouble, and its all gotten a bit tribal, what with the preponderance of Beemer riders, harley riders and other such snobbery....
at least youre okay mate...heartbreaking that the new bike has taken a tumble...call me a sissie, but this is one reason why i never ride in these conditions.

  15. :upyeah:

Don't take it personally or think that it's Ducati specific. I've dropped an ElectraGlide in front of a large, highly amused bunch of mates and received no help at all. Just a round of applause.

Yet, when I fell off a 1 week old GS1200 on the gravel of Kielder Forest, I was picked up by the last people you'd expect to help, a bunch of rambler types.

  16. Its to easy to label 'em all up as being the same. They (the ones that didnt stop) would probably be just the same and ride on by if they were on a bike or scooter...
Just saying, as I have had help from both bikers and car drivers over the years. I also know of several selfish bikers who would just leave you stranded if it didnt look life threatening.
I do on average 40k a year in a car and between 4 and 12k on a bike, depending on opportunity to get out or tour on the bike. It still shocks me how bad some bikers are with aggressive, illegal or damn stupid riding. So 'we' end up being labelled or branded as well. Just saying. And I dont ride/drive like an angel, far from it. ;)

  17. i actually had a lady in a merc drive up to me in the middle of the road trapped under a 1098 and she reversed and then drove around me, still at least she never drove over me.

  18. Friend of mine fell off on some empty road in Yugoslavia many years ago (when it was Yugoslavia). He's lying in the road with him and the bike blocking it, when a German car came along and just hooted at him until he was able to get up and move the bike out of the way.

Astonishing. But then again, maybe not.

  19. Not sure if I've mentioned this here before, but ...

During the big South of England storm in 1990 - which occurred during the day (and took place after the 1987 "non"-hurricane) - a friend of mine was outside of Morrisons, assisting OAPs. They were being blown into the road, being rolled over and over, and ... I shit you not ... people were attempting to drive past the helpless pensioners in their cars, banging on their horns as they went. My friend was completely lost for words at the time.

There's a species of aliens among us ... they look like human beings ... but they are not.
