  1. When I was 16/17 I spent the worst 9 months of my life working for Unilever on Blackfriars bridge in the smoke.Wish they had white collar boxing in 1974 cos I would have been a very busy young man

  2. Today was the day, in my 43rd year of full time employment, 29 of them with the same employer, I gave notice of my intention to retire. The look of horror on my current manager's face when I said the earliest I could go would be Wednesday next week. I eventually agreed to give them 8 weeks notice of which 4 will be using up my annual leave. Also managed to get out on the Multistrada during my lunch time and did 60 odd miles in brilliant sunshine. All in all, a good day. Andy

  3. Amazed Andy, I thought you had retired years ago :p Here comes the real adventure for you :) Get together with @Dave on his treks he's planning ;)

Two calls about jobs y'day and put forward for selection, call today for interview for a third tomorrow (for experience tbh, not holding my breath) and meeting a guy later today that may have a 3 month training roll out assignment for me, if needed. Ball is rolling :)

  8. If my plan works it's 10 yrs of grindstone followed by 10 yrs of pleasant, enjoyable work where salary is miles from the equation. If not then it's 20 yrs of grindstone ... :)

  13. Of course, if you are ever in Buckinghamshire let me know.

  14. Wifey handed in her notice and got put on garden leave. Really pleased for her as she hates her job and really needs a month off. Also very handy pre Christmas. However, project 999 refurbishment will now be under much greater scrutiny and smuggling stuff to the garage will be way trickier!

  20. Yesterday was bad and good luck day.

Wife left for work in the BMW at 07.20 and at 07.25 she rang to say she had 2 punctures on the way. I rushed round and got her to the station leaving the BMW parked on a verge on a straight C class country road. About mid-day I went back with trolley jack and breaker bar and sockets to change wheels. I parked the Zafira on wrong side of the road back to back with the BMW about a metre apart. I attached the 12v compressor pump to the front offside tyre and set it going. I loosened all the wheel bolts and jacked up the nearside rear. Walked between the cars to the offside front to check how it was inflating. As I leaned down something caught my peripheral vision on my left. I turned and saw a VW Golf plough into the front of the Zafira. I saw the airbags inflate in the Golf and watched as the two cars were propelled past me. I was showered by sockets and tools which I had left in the open boot of the Zafira and plastic debris from the collision. When they stopped I was standing by the nearside B pillar of the Zafira. Both my cars had their handbrakes on they had been shunted about 6 metres.

The woman driving got out slowly and I noticed that the front windscreen was completely obscured by condensation on the inside and she had been driving directly towards the sun. She was shaken but basically unhurt. When I spoke to her I thought she was shocked but soon began to suspect that she was pissed. She borrowed my phone to call her husband but could not manage it. Another woman stopped and realised what was going on and phoned for her. Meanwhile I called the police at which point she set off on foot back the way she had come they were very anxious that I gave a description and direction of travel etc. Her husband arrived and walked her back to the scene.

Police arrived after about 20 minutes spent another 15 minutes taking details and breathalysed her. She failed on the roadside test and they arrested her. More police arrived to clear up. The culprit was transported to Tonbridge nick where she would have to have another breath test. Apparently she passed this one and she was released. They will call her back to see if they can do her for “driving without due care and attention”

My bad luck really was having two not very valuable but perfectly serviceable cars being written off and having all the crap to deal with re insurance, hire cars etc., etc. I will probably get next to nothing for them and only last week I had renewed the insurance on the BMW to start from 08/12/16.

The good luck was that if it had occurred 5 seconds earlier I would have been between the two cars and not ever sending this missive.

What absolutely amazed me was that within 20 minutes of getting the BMW home I had calls from 3 separate companies asking if there had been a whiplash injury. Parasites!
