So much has been made of the random phrase "have your cake and eat it" with journalists falling over themselves to interpret it in some dramatic way, yet quite apart from the fact this was not a government paper nor a minister carrying it, there is no context. How did the complete sentence read? It could have been "There is no way we'll be able to have our cake and eat it". Or "The challenge is to have our cake and eat it", or maybe "Fuck the French, they're bankrupt and in turmoil. We'll stick it to them and have our cake and eat it". No one knows. You can make the phrase fit any strand of opinion on Brexit. It could mean anything and therefore it means nothing. Its the 24 hour news cycle that's to blame. They can't wait for real news so they pluck an empty phrase off an unguarded piece of paper and spin it to death. Is so tedious and melodramatic.
No wonder Corbyn and his director of communications are such fans of Stalin. At best estimates he only murdered a paltry 40 million people. Mere collateral damage in the glorious revolution. So if Mao was so-so to OK, uncle Joe must have been a saint and hero. I wonder how many people you have to kill before the Left consider you worthy of mild censure? But then critics of The Struggle - whatever it happens to be that day - don't count as people. They are expendable so that's OK. Well that much hasn't changed.
Is this the right thread to discuss the fact that the Wings Over Scotland (surely that should read "Westminster is over Scotland") blogger, Stu Campbell, is suing some fella over non-payment of a bet over whether Trump would win the US presidential election? The guy refuses to pay over $100 to Campbell. It's a good job we have law courts to sort these kind of critical legal issues which ultimately could otherwise spell the end of civilisation as we know it. Interestingly, Campbell has apparently chosen not to clog up the Scottish legal system with this vital piece of litigation and has chosen to pursue it through the English courts (where presumably they understand the Law much better).
as you know campbell lives in bath. apparently he aint moving back until ..........ce what you failed to realize is that little prosecution, 30squid i think. has got the second biggest political debunking site headline coverage (something it didn't get when the papers lost). Duh,loz, you got a lot to learn when it comes to promotion and getting the message out thanks again
Dodging of the issue noted. You're finally learning how to do politics, finm! Makes yer proud ... *sniff*
and when did i do that? you have read the article. if others are interested they will go for a wee look see.
Would you suggest that I keep looking for various versions of the same story until I discover one with a slant that fits my preconceived notions, and then parade it as "the truth"? How would that work out? With the benefit of your experience, you must have some superb advice for me. Don't worry if you can't shake the feeling that you've told me a hundred times already ... it really never gets old :Hilarious:
so, dear loz fountain of truth and fact. what do you suggest i read.?i don't do the VIZ btw. where are you getting yer knowledge? i get most of mine from looking around me and backed up by the odd FACT published in a site the MSM cant touch. pray tell. o sarcastic one.
just out of interest @Loz, not that you would necessarily admit it, but have you ever trolled on WOS? noticed the odd comment of late that look v.much like your style of writing. :Watching::Shiftyall good btw)
I go to you for the truth, finm. No matter how much spin you employ and how one-sided your arguments are, I know that you are telling me a truth. If you are silent on a particular subject - for example, everything that isn't related to Nippy and her one-woman crusade of hatred - I read newspapers, news sites, private blogs and the opinions of a wide and eclectic range of friends and acquaintances from various parts of the globe. This is useful for getting a less biased viewpoint as, for instance, my US friends have no particular axes to grind with regard to local UK politics. It's also helpful, when I discuss US politics with my US friends, that I get a range of opinions from the UK and across the globe. Having lived in more than one country, and having taken notice of what folks are saying about Britain (when I am abroad) or about the USA, when I am not there, I not only get an interestingly different narrative ... I am forcibly reminded that most of what I see and hear is based upon propaganda and positioning. This is as true in West Sussex as it is out beyond The Wall, where the Wildlings live and dream and imagine that they are somehow immune to manipulation.
so in a country thats split down the middle you think i don't get to hear a different opinion?. you think the people i associate with dontr have vested interests in the future of the nation. at least two close friends could probably buy and sell most SME's in the uk if that was their choice (from there business account obviously). their opinion as much as yours and anyone are always taken into account, Buuuuuuuuut. if they spout bollox ie, yer pensions at risk,if you vote aye you will be out of Europe if you vote aye, jobs will be safe,if you vote aye nats are driven by hatred etc etc etc so on and so forth then that will be challenged. i tend to avoid the subjects i dont know to much about (try it) thats not avoiding the issue.
and let you and yours dictate my future with out any input from my good self? no, no thanks. :smileys:
