1299 Extended Warranty

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by MergatroidSkittle, Nov 30, 2016.

  1. Keep hearing people talking about extending the warranty. My 1299 is 1.5 years old, is it too late to extend my warranty? Not had anything in the post about extension and wasn't told about it by the dealer.

  2. Yes, unfortunately its too late. Any bikes registered before 1/1/16 are not eligible. Bikes after this had a grace period but now all extended warranty needs to be taken out at the time of purchase.

  3. I bought mine in april 2016 - motorapido haven't notified me of the option and its one of my biggest concerns with owning the bike past two years .. especially on a 3 year finance deal

  4. The dealer I purchased the bike from did not know anything about it when I first rang them earlier this year, said I was the first person to ask. The first I was aware of the product was through this forum.

    Ducati - Ducati Ever Red

  5. FFS I just called motorapido who said the back dated offer expired on the last date of September

What a buch of xxxking idiots - they never called me to say my bike was eligeable.

    Absolutely LIVID

  6. That's a real bummer. I also bought mine this April and received a letter from Ducati asking me to approach the dealer if I was interested. Not cheap at £849 for 2 years but figure I am highly likely to recoup the outlay within the extended period seeing how many of these bikes have issues.

S'worth going back to Ducati to ask why you were not notified and kick up a stink...

  7. I bought mine in December last year. I too heard nothing about this from the supplying dealer. I am not bothered, though. I have every confidence in Ducati and @nelly who looks after it. My thinking is that everything that's going to go wrong will have done so by the time the standard warranty expires. At the going rate it will have about 15k miles on it by then...

  8. If something does go wrong, you have a strong case for expecting some "goodwill" from Ducati UK under the circumstances. Unless of course you have pissed them off in the meantime by getting nasty with them - in which case the goodwill may have all been used up.

  9. hmm motorapido are saying that the extended warranty came out in June and could be backdatet to 1 march. I actually bought my bike mid feb so missed out by a couple of weeks - hence why i didn't get the mailshot

Still pretty angry - I would have delayed registering if i had known

I have written a polite email to Ducati UK asking to be included - i don't suppose that'll go anywhere .. anyone know who I might call?

  10. There are other third party warranty companies that will cover you. I had a policy a few years ago on my 1199 after I missed out on the Ducati warranty because I wasn't told. Seems funny in this day and age, normally companies are ramming the warranty down your neck. Try 'Warrany Direct' cost me about £220 a year for my 1199S. Never claimed on it so can't comment on how good they are if it comes to the worst. Now I just keep a slush fund for these things as by the time you've paid for a warranty on your bike, the car, washing machine, boiler etc etc it's costing a fortune. Odds are they'll never all go wrong at the same time so putting money aside each month instead of paying for warranties means you build up a pot of money which is yours and not just dead money that you've given away to an insurance company.

  11. very sensible advice - thankyou!!

  12. I normally agree with your logic & certainly excercise it in every other area of my life , but in the case of a panigale, the extended warranty is worth its weight in gold.

Additionally, I've previously commented on this but when I contacted Warranty Direct ( forget the online quote - attempt to take that out & they cancel it) , a manager informed me they do not cover the entire Pani range because its financially unviable.

Things may have changed, in which case it would be good for other members to know.

A member recently posted how he ended up with a huge bill trying to claim from WD, in this case reading the small print is a must.

  13. You make a valid point. The devil is in the detail of these policies. Fortunately I never had to claim from them. I'm not sure if there's any actual statistics to say what percentage of panigales have problems and because of this it's difficult to gauge whether or not an extended warranty is worth the money, although it does give peace of mind. The problem is forums of any sort whether it be a bike forum or washing machine forum is, even though it's full of useful information and knowledgable people it's also a place where everybody's woes culminate for the armchair experts to diagnose and sometimes things get out of perspective. Rare problems can be made out to be common problems and that every bike is going to go wrong and cost a fortune to fix. I was worried when my warranty run out but my bikes five years old now and I haven't had a warranty for 2 years and touch wood alls been ok. Im not belittling those who have had problems, you can be lucky or unlucky with these things. Like it was said above Ducati will usually honour a problem if it occurs out of the norm and the bike hasn't been abused. This was the case with my 1098 and the radiator leak. The bike was 2 years out of warranty at the time.

  14. I too am in the bike registered too early boat. However, before my warranty runs out in Dec 17 I am told they will have a different product available for used Ducati owners to purchase. It was mentioned briefly in the Milan show presentation. I await with excitement.

  15. The warranty runs out on my 1299 in March. Ducati won't extend it and I'm not paying a 3rd party to pick which bits they want to cover based on the probability of them failing. As others have said, have a little fund (start it with the few hundred the warranty would cost), and take your chances. What is realistically going to be the most expensive claim? A couple of grand for an engine? After that, maybe a grand for an electrical gremlin? They don't all expire, so take a chance.

  16. thanks for that - i'll await update - if anyone sees details then please update this thread

  17. I believe the warranty mentioned at Milan was a 2 year warranty on used bikes, the same thing bmw are doing at the moment.
