  1. Looks like fun :)

  2. I like idea of the corner pause button, might be really handy at some point, usually before that 'oh shit' moment.

    Ingenious

  3. Got the 2016 1290 Duke and its the best bike I've ever owned and maybe ever ridden as a road bike. Done 9000 miles on it this year. Uncorked with the full Evo exhaust system. Monstrous, hilarious but composed, comfortable and hopelessly addictive. 4th gear power wheelies, lives with any 200 bhp super sports bike and sounds evil like a methanol-fuelled grass tracker at full chat. A glorious thing.
People moan its expensive but its still £1500 cheaper than a Monster 1200R. Just sayin..

  4. Some stunning deals right now on 2016 models. Now available with £3000 off(!!!) at just £10,999.

  5. I noticed that last night, one dealer was also offering an SC project exhaust thrown in.
Felt sorry for the folks on autotrader who has used bikes with 12000 miles on them asking for more than a new one is now.
Guess the message is not quite out yet :)

  6. Sort of on topic, as this is a duacti forum.. been looking at the 2016 SE (orange bits!!) and available for 12k which seems a good price.

Currently riding a 2014 GS te (dont laugh) and done 8k in the last 12month. Previous bike S1r (fasttt, but inline 4 dull) and previously MTS 1200.
The R1200gs IS superb, handles bloody fantastic with Roadsmarts 3s, doesnt dive on the brakes etc. and only shows up lack of performance at naughty speeds.

Here is the BUT, its not exactly exciting, I dont open the garage door and go 'YEAH!'. I also like to be on the back wheel on occasions, doable but not easy on the big bus.

So Im looking at the Superduke (not the GT, as its bigger, heavier and too expensive and just not ...sexy).

My question is anyone found a screen option for the duke that is some where near effective at making it reasonably comfy, tank range, handling? Handling is an important question, as the gs really is that good.
Looking at this screen Ermax Sport Windshield KTM 1290 SuperDuke: AOMC.mx

Dont bother telling me its a naked, obviously. But even the S1r could be made usable as a tourer with an MRA screen.
Looking for useful feedback not piss taking about the GS or naked bike comments lol ;)

  7. Yup - I saw a brand new 2016 SDR for £10499 today... That aint bad at all.

  8. These are growing on me

  9. Where? At that money its a steal!

  10. I had the 1190 KTM Adventure R and it lifted the front as often as the Panigale. Ridiculously surreal experience on such a big bike.

  11. Great fun. Get the GS up, but its only off crests in the road, not off throttle only.

  12. Have you ridden the SDR? The aerodynamics are pretty amazing for a naked. I thought the Streetfighter was good but the SDR is even better and in a different class to a screen-less S1000R which feels totally exposed. 90 mph cruising speed perfectly doable for as long as there's petrol in the tank. The shape of the headlight and back of the dash pod have been cunningly designed. Its really very undemanding to ride fast over distance.
I've heard the Puig screens help a little but none of them are lookers and they're all gestures really and might create turbulence and noise where there wasn't any to start with. If you've tried it and want a screen, fair do's. But if not, take a test ride first and make sure you're not over thinking it.

  13. I tried the S1r with standard and also with 2 other screen options. Only the larger MRA was up to the job of giving some protection and clean air.
90-100mph cruising will be on the cards along with 200-300mile days (next years euro trip). From experience of other bikes, screens etc, some experimenting would be anticipated. My flat bar converted GSXR1000 was unbearable for noise/turbulence at anything over 80. Coming from the GS which is the opposite extreme for protection, I doubt using no screen would be an option over distances planned (and weather encountered..). How the screen looks is fairly secondary to any advantages for me, and would even consider an additional vane (like the vario) on top of a screen! If only the GS weighed less and was more exciting.

What do you think of the Dukes suspension? Both the BMs have been superb in that department.

  14. Test ride seems to be on the cards me thinks..

  15. I currently have a brand spanking new Superduke SE with full akrapovic next to me right now in the garage, it sounds phenomenal :)

Can't however seem to tax it online using my V5C/2...... Kinda puts a dampener on things

  16. The suspension is very good but stock setting are soft and when I had mine set up by a suspension specialist he found there was a mismatch in damping between front and rear causing a slight wallow when really pushed and the sag was lower at the rear than the front leading to an under-weighted front wheel and a touch of vagueness. Easily sorted with a proper set-up. The front forks for some bizarre reason have no preload adjustment. It doesn't really matter. I'm 13.5 stone and the suspension guy said the spring rates were well within limits for my weight and the sag was correct. Might be an different story for and 18 stone rider. When correctly set up the suspension performs excellently. Its not overly harsh, the damping works very well and there's plenty of preload adjustment at the back. Its might seem odd that a manufacturer with their own top-end suspension brand in-house doesn't fit the best boingers for their flag-ship naked, until you look at the accessories catalogue and see the upgrades they want to sell you... At least that's my theory.
Its doesn't have the magic carpet ride of the S1000R nor the taut, stiff, track-ready feel of the Tuono, or as many blingy twiddly bits as you might have hoped for but its still pretty damn good and if you're faster than the bike you're in the wrong job unless your name is Jeremy McWilliams.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  17. £3k off list for a current bike is great, but it totally destroys the brand and the resale of used bikes. It's 'cheap' practise IMHO.

I guess it's fine for us if we aren't buying the latest one, and anyone thinking of buying a 2017 would be utterly insane.....
