British Indy: What Happens Now?

?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

Results are only viewable after voting.
  1. I've all but stopped watching the BBC for news now. I think Lord Haw Haw has taken up residence in the Director General's office without anybody noticing.

  2. It's also worth mentioning that this speech was infront of the CBI.

When we had the vote it was kept as simple as it needed to be as half this, keep that but not that, would have seen 2 years negotiating just on what question to ask.

Do you want to stay in, or leave?

I think what some in the tory party are after (the soft exit group who are mostly remainers) are hoping they can get away with soft Brexit so we have half and half.

I think they have also calculated that if they do try a soft brexit, they know the tories will take a right good kick in at the next election. However for those remainers/soft exit tories I think, they are relying on Corbyn still being around and know most who voted out would never vote for Corbyn so the tories might still stay in power even with a whole political lower turn out.

These same people thought we would stay in Europe before and if they try the soft Brexit, it will show the political establishment would have learnt nothing at all about majority vote.

  3. If the Tory party doesn't deliver what the terms of the Referendum promised, that is total extraction from our membership of the European Union,I doubt the party will exist after the next General Election.I can only go on what people I trust to tell me the truth have said, and if they are being honest then none of them have said they will vote for a party that has blatantly misled the Electorate, and this goes for Remoaners and Leavers.
It's one thing being lied to in a manifesto:no one with any brains thinks that a new Government knows what awaits them behind the doors of Downing Street, but the Referendum question was black and white: vote In or Out,and we'll deliver what you vote for.
We are governed by consent,we are policed by consent. That consent might well be withdrawn if we've been cynically led down the garden path.

  4. ffs. your in to deep. dont start peddling that britnat pish.
in a recent reff the country's chief Constable remarked on how robust yet peaceful the three year campaign had been conducted. a quick google will confirm.
despite what i think you have been told, the only casualties where jim murphys shirt and a handful of indi supporters. 99.99% sure that the only charges brought where against a female former leader of a merseyside council after allegedly assaulting a female indi supporter (found not proven), and a handful of Union Jack flag wavers in GeorgeSquare during their victory parade after attacking lone indi supporters.
honestly mate, if your suggesting violence or something other than peaceful process its time for a break.

  5. A few refocused minds in the Tory party this morning, i bet. :tearsofjoy:

Ultimately they are only interested in staying in power and will do whatever it takes to achieve that.

  6. I think it's a lot of hot air and bullshit over nothing personally

    First thing is first

Let's say we contribute to the EU by way of funds to gain access to the single market, well that surely has to be less than, or equal to whatever the likely tariffs would cost if we didn't contribute. Baring in mind if we go with tariffs then we'll also receive some money for those paying to trade with us.

If it's more then what's the point, just go with tariffs.

    Next, immigration

Why is everyone, including both the BBC and Sky news reporter I've watched this morning failing to understand basic stuff?

Nobody has said we completely halt immigration. They have simply said that they wish to control it.

Comparing numbers between EU immigration (no choice in those figures) to rest of the world immigration (every choice) is pointless.

Immigration from the EU doesn't give us choice in whom we let in or for what reason. It simply allows anybody from within the EU to come no matter what they're bringing to the table.

That's not the same as saying none of them offer anything, because they do. But many don't have to prove one way or another and there's nothing we can do about it.

Immigration from the rest of the world is entirely up to us how it's structured.

Therefore if we request that for the first 6 months any immigrant is financially sponsored, and then a further 12 months of proven employment before they can reasonably expect to claim any UK benefit entitlement, I ask what is wrong with that?

If you are an immigrant then you should be able to understand that unless your intention was to not work in the first place.

However, let's not mix immigrants with asylum seekers, those guys don't have as much choice where they go and should be treated entirely different.

It's all just bullshit time filling news with no real aim other than to sell papers etc

Much of the UK, especially the people we sell to are simply getting on with business.

As an example we recently had to increase our prices due to currency, it was marginal but needed.

We've just had the biggest single sales month on record with 24% growth over November 2015

Our average gp is up by 1% ytd based on one month's sales at the increased price and so it's not all doom and gloom out there.

I appreciate it's not the same for everyone but most of my suppliers are still having a good year.

I just wish people would put their sensible head on for a change

  7. Tariffs are not something any government will pay. It will be you and me and all your customers paying it and government collecting it.

It will add a big red tape burden to business ( i can remember the returns companies had to fill in before the single market) and mean that everyone can afford to buy less.

  8. You'd think from what some folks are saying that the UK will have to invent the idea of International Trade from scratch.

    How will it work?
    What could happen?
    Will we all die?

    :Hilarious:

  9. yip. once they (uk government) discover diplomacy and how to appease the great unwashed who are expecting prosperity, full high paid employment and immigration control. yer laughing.

  10. I am looking forward to the tariff returns Companies ask me to complete. Imagine how complex they will be with different trade deals all over the world. Could take a week to complete one of those.

  11. The Goldsmith election did provide me with mirth this morning.

Tim Farron was the reason for my chuckledom when he said, the people have spoken and we need to listen.

He was of course talking about the 20,510 who voted in their 9th liberal mp and not the 17,410,742 voters who voted to leave the EU.

He still reminds me of Ken Dodd, wahayyy

  12. Richmond voted for a Remoaner; there's a surprise.

Fortunately Jezza will never have to worry about staying in power.

  13. Farron comes across as even less Prime Ministerial than Corbyn, if such a thing were possible. He has the look of a prickly and frustrated office junior who doesn't understand that being taken seriously in the world of grown up business takes more than a suit from Matalan and the latest phone app.

  14. My company import goods mainly from outside the EU. Some of the supplying countries have trade deals but most dont so most of what we import already has duty attached. It really is not a complicated process or heavy burden by any means . I am sure you know that there is already some paperwork on EU imports anyway as we have to deal with the VAT is things arrive in the UK anyway.
Agreed that the government are happy to collect tarrifs but it is hardly a terrible hindrance based on the number of non EU cars, bikes, electric goods, shoes, clothes etc I see around. All depends of course on how high the rates are set at.

  15. What a very erudite and sensible answer.............Expect to have some baseless FACTs thrown at you at any moment. :)

  16. Majority down to 7 but probably no majority at all in any vote on Brexit. Won't take many more by elections to force a GE.

  17. Yes but everything dine now is done as an EU member. We won't be that if we Brexit so everything will have to be revised, new laws drawn up, new paperwork drawn up, more customs staff to prevent delays.

  19. Alternatively we could carry on using the same systems and instead of them being called " EU import procedure" they could be called " UK import procedure ".
I accept that might not be easy for a politician to grasp as none of them ever seem to understand that often less is more.

  20. That is in fact precisely what the Government has proposed. There is no need to rewrite laws. All current EU legislation to which the UK is subject will be transferred unchanged onto the UK statute. Parliament will then amend this body of law at its leisure. Laws currently determined by the EU Commission can be amended, scrapped or retained according to the will of Parliament. While that process gets underway, nothing will change unless and until Parliament votes to change it.
