Rollerc oasters

  1. Well, we are all used to scooting along at high speeds and cornering with our ears on the ground. So what is your view on roller coasters?

I hadn't been on one since The Wild Mouse at Southsea funfair when I was about 9 - and that had me bricking it.

Went to Universal Studios in Orlando last week and felt professionally obliged to ride the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. For my first coaster in 40 odd years, it was a big one. Basically pants-browning, I thought. I had my eyes closed through some of it (but it was at night too).

It's sort of like riding pillion with some demented loon who you are sure is going to kill you. It might not look fast - but it feels bloody fast.

    Any fans here?

  2. Was there in September 2011 and so wanted to ride this but it was closed "for technical reasons" for the 2 weeks we were there! I rode most of the others and had a great time. I love coasters, but don't think I'll be going back again. It was 9 years since my last visit and I reckon in another 9 years I'll be too old and creaky to try again!

  3. When I was a young man, I coped with the likes of "The Python" at Busch Gardens Orlando and later on, "Space Mountain" at DisneyLand Paris. No sweat.

Years later, having ridden bikes hard and fast for many years, I figured "The Colossus" at Thorpe Park would be a doddle. I got on it and effectively blacked out.

Just say "No" to rollercoasters

  4. I hate the moment of weightlessness as you plummet downwards to build up speed after the after the initial slow clunking climb - if there's a big drop, I've been knwon to run out of scream before we get to the bottom, but love the G-force on corners and the upside down bits.

There's a relatively mild coaster at one of the Disney parks in Florida (MGM studios) - or at least there was 10 years ago - which didn't have the initial plummet but instead accelerated you upwards before going into the twisty bits - I liked that.

  5. I went on a candy-striped tea cup roundabout at Flambards in Cornwall with my kids when they were little and the vom was lapping around my bottom teeth!!! Clearly I wouldn't take this on. I'll stick to biking thanks.

  6. I throw up on those so can not enjoy them sadly.

  7. I love them. One of the best ones I've been on was in Orlando (can't remember which park cos we were the doing a few for business research purposes  ) I think the ride was called the Duelling Dragons :upyeah:

Not sure if its still there but if it is and you get the chance to go on it, then do so. It's brilliant

  8. Think that's universal, not been for years but love the incredible hulk ride there, plus superman at six flags and Goliath there.

  9. Yes I think it was Universal. Well remembered that man :upyeah:

  10. Can't do roller coasters they make me feel sick or I am sick

Skydiving is much more fun :) without the sickness

  11. I like them, except where the little car you sit in is too small and uncomfortable. Knees jammed up against a hard fascia is not a great feeling.

  12. Oh, oh was I ever tempted to type something in hilariously poor taste about a family member.

    Carry on.

  13. That was my first coaster to. The next was the looping star at Bembom Brothers Margate.
