I see one lined up ready today Key console being sent off to Italy to be numbered Looks absolutely awesome!
I don't see what the big deal is... if you want a 959 with a full akrapovic system and a few other bits then why wouldn't you buy the SE as it works our cheaper assuming you bought all the parts RRP
No, because I wasn't that daft! The numbers worked out less than that though, if I had wanted. I took the more sensible option and put a US959 exhaust on mine for £700, then swapped the bike for a 1299S (which incidentally was less than this special edition).
You could build this yourself for less than 17 easily if you have time to look around and manage to get used or non OEM carbon etc As I said I did my bike for £14k - all it is lacking compared to This is the tail tidy and levers and mine is OEM underbelly 1299 not akrapovic (but does have ohlins damper and MCT shock however) If you build yourself you also have all the bits to sell on after use to offset the cost. Unless the dealers are discounting the price of the SE and SE carbon,(which I'm sure they would when you got into the nitty gritty) I think 17k is too much. Both models needed to be a grand cheaper to be a reasonable saving. I think 16k for the carbon pack SE would be a good buy
The biggest issue imo with the 899/959 is the rear shock. She's a really sweet handling bike otherwise! Carbon has never really done anything for me. Don't get me wrong I love carbon but to me it's just not justifiable. It makes fuck all difference to the performance of the bike. I'd sooner spend my moneys on track time and tyres !
My friend paid £1400 for his belly akrapovic kit because he hates the shotgun pipes and it was that or they didn't sell a bike, so i think any arguments about what it would cost to build are a bit irrelevant because u wouldn't surely (unless u are crazy!) pay £250 for a tail tidy or £200 for the fuel cap would you? Plus, just getting back to the use of the term 'special edition' nothing makes this bike 'special'... having lightweight wheels or suspension components that you can't buy from the parts catalogue would be a proper special. Just my opinion, as I said if u want it then pay the money and that's your choice but I think I would be going with a 1299 at that money even though I dont need the power, it has lots of other stuff I would want more (blooper, sssa, better brakes and colour tft) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Because, as I said above, if I had wanted the SE spec it was available for a lot less in a deal. Personally, if I were doing it now I'd get a second hand one and put the pipes on that. My bike that was only registered in May and has only done 3,000 miles is in my dealer for £10.5k.... You could have the under belly Akra's on it for about the price of a new (standard) 959.
So back in may you just happend to ask for a price on the exact same spec as the SE and got a discounted price? Sounds like Ducati stole your desired spec and made the SE!!
