High Guys and Girls, im after a bit of advice if you can help. i have been searching for a nice low mileage 748s for sometime and I think I have found the "1". I have just carried out an on-line check and the check shows the bike as a 748S Bip. The bike is Mono with no rear pillion pegs. My question is what is the likelihood that this has been converted from a Bi to a Mono ? Or does the V5 not always accurately reflect this? i have an engine number and will be requesting the VIN number from the seller tomorrow. This is a distance sale with a family member acting as a rep and the deal all being well will be signed off on Thursday. After 8 years away from Ducati I am looking at rekindling my romance therefore I am being extra vigilant in my due diligence. Any help or advice will be greatly received. Thanks in advance Jake
Hi The bike has a mono subframe fitted, but I'm aware that these are swapped around from mono to bip and vice versa. The owner states it was a Mono from new however I'm concerned that the on-line check shows it as a Bip. I'm going to seek clarification as to what's written on the V5. I know it's not a major issue but I'm looking for a 'true' bike. Thank You
If the shock hasn't been messed with, the spring-rate printed on it will determine mono or bip. Although I am not sure of the values. Again, this could've bee changed.
I wouldn't trust anything on the V5 the DVLA make so many errors that nothing on the V5 can be relied upon with 100% accuracy
Get the frame and engine number and do a check with Ducati UK. They have answered queries I have previously had then and there on the phone.
Ducati UK av always been very helpfull when i've phoned them , Give em the frame No. & they tell u what bike it is . Not sure if it's still the same phone No. , but when i phoned it was 08451222996 ...
Thanks for all your replys Its much appreciated. In terms of the V5 I recall several Aprilia Riders having the same issue when there bikes were Registered as an RSV Aand not an RSV'R'.
Both mine simply state 'Motorcycle', 'Ducati' and engine size in CC, no mention of model (916, Monster) or variant on the V5 documents...
Thanks for all your comments. I have done an Hpi check on the bike which confirms its all good, however Ducati couldnt find the VIN details on there records The owner stated that the bike is an original Mono however the V5 states Bip. Not a major issue but I was hoping that Ducati could clear up the confussion which they cant I have decided to give the bike a miss as that warm feeling has escaped me, the bike also had a few chips which in my opinion were not consistant with the mileage. I suppose I just lost trust in the history of the bike. Good News I'm still looking for a mint 748S with low mileage
Mine is a true mono - and the V5 just described it as a 998 - I sent it back to them at first registration and they corrected it.
