No. You haven't gleaned anything. You've interpreted and jumped to binary conclusions, probably based on partisanship and dog whistle assumptions. Because I don't share many of your particular political beliefs I must therefore be a... etc etc. If I am not on your side I must be all of the things you dislike and and so off you go hanging labels. The truth is, I don't have a world view. I have better things to do than carry the world's problems on my shoulders and I don't flatter myself that I have the answers, or even that there are any. Those who think they have all the answers usually turn out to be a large part of the problem. As far as domestic politics goes, I believe power should be devolved downwards as far as possible and dispersed outwards as widely as possible. The very opposite of insularity, elitism and authoritarianism. I detest top-down centralism. Its the system we currently live under in the UK and the model worshipped at the alter of Brussels which is why I voted to leave. That is where elitism comes from. Its where authoritarianism comes from. That is why and how power is held by a feudal minority. Changing the ruling elite for one draped in my colours doesn't interest me. And I detest moral absolutism. The idea that one view is more virtuous and therefore superior to all others and should be adopted by all, by force of law - or worse - if necessary. That is authoritarianism and the default position of the "liberal" left: tribal loathing and intolerance dressed up as the defence of liberty and the main reason why I have never been able to support that branch of politics. I believe all views are valid, even if I don't agree with them and no subject should be taboo. And I respect the right of other people to live however they choose, even if their choices are incomprehensible or even distasteful to me, as long as they grant the same license to me. Its an uncommon view it seems, because it is one that is largely unrepresented at a political level. And that's about as far as it goes really.

I agree. The internet is a very unsatisfactory way to discuss things. The depth and and subtlety of human communication is far too nuanced and sophisticated for a dumb keyboard. We were designed with voices, eyes and facial expressions. Trying to communicate without them is a recipe for crossed wires and frustration however hard we try.
John Major does indeed give that impression, but we can't escape the fact that he carries significant responsibility for the EU mess that we got into - Maastricht Treaty 1992.
